1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
I enjoyed the safari and water sports the most. Also beautiful scenery and lovely people.
2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
It’s very full on. Early starts everyday. Heat and humidity make hiking and cycling quite difficult. Lots of historical ruins and temples. Don’t come if you don’t like spices food or curry. I do but others didn’t and food is repetitive. Someaccommodation very basic - no hot water.
3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
There wasn’t a lot of interaction with locals except for equipment hire and
accommodation. We did have our own filter water bottles.
4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
Disappointing as it was very poorly organised. A hotel changed whilst there to different location. Guide was new and not properly briefed. He tried. No time to relax or shop and generally wander and absorb area. Lack of comfort breaks. Long hours on bus. Some highs but a lot of confusion and poor
communication. Very hot and sticky and not much of the coast was safe to swim

Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.
Planet
Running safari drives in the quieter Wilpattu National Park provides support for conservation as well as an environmentally conscious experience for both you and the unique animals we witness. The likes of Yala National Park allow 200 vehicles per half day, whereas Wilpattu allows just 30 – 40. Going hand-in-hand with this, our local partner provides training to the drivers so they understand their role to preserve the environment. Our local leaders provide glass water bottles as well as encourage refilling and reusing these and other bottles with the large water container which is in the back of your vehicle, to discourage buying of single-use plastic water bottles. The environment is what makes your experience, and maintenance of this will have a long-term positive impact on Sri Lanka.
As a travel company we are continually looking for ways to improve and are proud to be ‘Responsible in everything we do’. Education is key, and so all staff, Tour Leaders and partnering suppliers are trained in responsible and sustainable tourism. At our Head Office, we continually strive towards a sustainable and planet-friendly working environment, including having solar panels installed and a company commitment to reducing our plastic usage.
People
Visiting small, independent and locally-owned restaurants is an integral part of our itinerary, and this means money goes into the local economy and community. In addition, this provides an authentic Sri Lankan meal experience. Our local partner employs only Sri Lankans who know their country incredibly well. The hotels we stay in are also staffed by at least 70% locals, providing training and experience within the tourism industry as well as a way to develop foreign language skills. This helps to keep jobs within the community.
As a company we have valuable and longstanding partnerships with UK charities Toilet Twinning and Send a Cow, plus many smaller initiatives and projects around the world. We’re members of the UK travel industry body AITO because we believe it’s important to share our knowledge and experience, as well as learn from other operators.
