Alaska classic tour, glaciers and grizzly bears
Description of Alaska classic tour, glaciers and grizzly bears
There’s a bear feeding frenzy every summer in Alaska. Gluttonous grizzlies are out and about, waiting at the top of waterfalls for the salmon to come leaping into their mouths. This classic tour of Alaska is designed to see as many bears as possible, and you’ll visit famous Brooks Falls, one of their favourite hunting grounds.
This flexible itinerary takes you where the bear watching is best, using boat rides, sightseeing flights and a floatplane. A park ranger will accompany you at Brooks Falls, to share their knowledge and passion for these brilliant animals.
Besides bears, over nine days you can see the best sights on the Kenai Peninsula in south central Alaska. The large jutting landmass below Anchorage is all mountains and fjords, with far-flung settlements in between: visit Homer, the halibut fishing capital and Seward, which sits at the entrance of glacier-rich Kenai Fjords National Park. The wildlife in this area is amazing. You could see orca and harbour seals, puffins and sea otters on a boat tour. On land, keep your eyes peeled for elusive moose and bald eagles.
This trip has kayaking for the adventurous, but there are activities to suit all ages and fitness levels. The itinerary is flexible, going where the bear viewings are best. Trip prices vary depending on whether the itinerary goes to Brooks Falls, where there are bunk rooms, or Homer, where there are private rooms. There is a supplement for solo travellers.

Responsible Travel
Planet
We operate this tour with a maximum group size of 16 travelers to minimize our impact on the culture and the environment where we visit. Our guides help guests to view the wildlife in a responsible way (i.e. keeping minimum distances, not using camera flashes and not disturbing the animals).
Water
We provide BPA free refillable water bottles for guests to use and have filtered water available for refills. We also encourage guests to conserve water in their bathrooms and to reuse towels as much as possible to cut back on washing machine loads.
We work with suppliers who are local families, avid outdoorsmen and cultural guardians. Our tour guides include an environmental engineer, a local photographer and an author who writes about the Aurora.
We stay in family owned lodges that conserve energy, recycle and reduce waste, and we partner with a family owned organic farm for educational visits about sustainable homestead living. We also only work with dogsledding outfits that treat their dogs like family and do their best to maintain a small carbon footprint.
We tour the cultural center with a member of the native community who teaches us about the history and traditional culture of the local tribes. Our money from this goes to support the native community and local programming. We also get a tour on geothermal energy at a local hot springs resort to learn about this alternative power source and how it fuels their facilities.
We offer vegetarian and vegan options at the places we go, we encourage guests to save water and electricity at our different locations by reusing towels, using our refillable water bottles, and leaving lights off. We use large vans to minimize the amount of vehicles needed, and we hire local staff for less flights needed.
People
We visit small locally owned restaurants that use farm to table practices whenever possible. We partner with independent local guides and family owned lodges that conserve water and electricity, encourage sustainable practices and respect and teach about the local environment and wildlife. There are lots of chances for meaningful cultural exchange through extended small group sessions with local environmentalists, families and culture bearers. There are limited tourism jobs that pay fairly in Alaska, so we provide our local partners with competitive pay and scheduled hours that are reliable and livable. We support families, small businesses, community centers, independent guides and local artists.
We provide opportunities to buy handmade local crafts. We support the local native community through our visits to local museums and cultural centers. We offer many chances for tourists to get to know locals in a personal and educational way. We always create sustainable partnerships with our local vendors and cultural experts.
