Description of Algarve holiday accommodation
If you’re looking for Algarve holiday accommodation then this fabulous rural estate in the southwest of the region provides a charming year round option, close to the beach and just down the road from Lagos. The views from the hillside setting encapsulate the peace and tranquillity of a rural retreat in Portugal with almond, fig and olive groves complementing the herbs, fruit and vegetables grown within the grounds of the estate.
Authenticity in Algarve holiday accommodation can be hard to find but with freshly laid eggs, gently swaying hammocks and the luxury of an outdoor swimming pool, guests can rest assured that they’ve found the real deal that’s been lovingly restored with traditional character in mind.
Families will be in their total element as the swimming pool has a shallow section for kids as well as a water feature to add to the laid back and relaxed ambience. There’s plenty of outdoor space for children to run around and play with dogs, cats, chickens, ducks and even a horse. We encourage little ones to help out if they want to with egg collection and vegetable picking favourite activities for enthusiastic workers. The local beach is just 1.5kms away and ideally suited for families with young children and we have several beach toys that always come in handy. We also offer high chairs, cots, changing mat, baby bath and a stroller on request.
For colder evenings, the quinta also has a fabulous and spacious Finnish sauna, right next to the pool. Your hosts can also arrange massages on request.
The nearby beach, Meia Praia Bay, is under 2kms from this Algarve holiday accommodation and the traditional village of Odiáxere is also close by with daily markets, a rustic bakery and several places to eat and stock up on supplies to provide guests with everything that they could wish for.
Aside from the local amenities this Algarve holiday accommodation offers access to walking and hiking trails with the Serra de Monchique, the Ria Formosa nature reserve and the ancient Via Algarviana that links the west coast of Portugal with neighbouring Spain, all accessible to guests.
Strolling aside, you’ll find numerous other opportunities to make the most of the landscapes and the climate with surfing, mountain biking, sailing and fishing all readily available nearby as well as several untouched white sand coves from where to sunbathe whilst shielded from the wind.

100%. Exactly what we as a family of three generations, age range from almost 3 to 71, were looking for. The freedom to wander their land, pick oranges, lemons and apricots. The beautiful swimming pool with a natural rock surround which all three generations used every single day. The meals were superb and the service outstanding. The south-west of Portugal has the most sun hours and the cleanest air in Europe and facilitates many outdoor activities - stimulating peoples’ contact with nature and awareness of its value. At this moment we have an organic vegetable garden, several fruit gardens and a diversity of flowering plants to attract bees and butterflies all year round. There are two solar systems, one for electricity and one for hot water and heating. The back-up of the hot water system is a biomass-burner. Rainwater is collected, we recycle authentic building materials of architectural value, and, whenever possible, we use natural materials in the developing processes. We use ecologically friendly cleaning products and recycle waste materials in order to create the lowest environmental impact possible. To avoid more plastic waste, from 2023 we will not allow inflatable toys in the pool anymore. We will make sure there's something to play with.People
The Quinta is a 10 minutes´ drive from Lagos (population 31.000 in winter), whose main industry is tourism and services. There are many foreign residents that are drawn to this area and a growing population of multilingual, travelled young people from all over Portugal. In the current economic and social climate many people are developing positive initiatives to see what ‘we’ can do to make this world a little brighter. We are continuously searching for possibilities to collaborate with local initiatives or to initiate them. We provide our guests with information on where to eat, where to shop and where to go. In this information we promote local establishments, (organic) markets, small-scale organizations and local cultural events. We offer (off-season) the possibility for artists-in-residence and there will be a unique space for workshops (with focus on liberal arts, sustainable living and personal growth) and small scale cultural events.
Part of the income from tourism and what remains from the activities after maintenance and energy expenses will be reserved for social projects like the integration of organic vegetable plots for people that live on social benefits, organizing activities with children. Where possible we will combine activities (for example: children in the vegetable plots to learn from people about (organic) gardening, music and theatre during a meal for older people).
As a Wwoof host (Willing Workers on Organic Farms) we receive volunteers from all over the world who help us maintain and develop the Quinta in exchange for board and lodging.
