Description of Azerbaijan, Georgia & Armenia tours
This small group tour of the Caucasus region takes you on a cultural odyssey from Azerbaijan to Georgia, and Armenia, exploring the ways that ancient traditions are balanced with the modern world, and taking in key sites from UNESCO-protected monasteries to prestigious wine regions, national parks and the capital cities. Each fascinatingly distinct; each with intriguing similarities.
Your two-week holiday begins in Baku, the Azerbaijan capital, where you’ll meet the rest of your group (no more than 12 people) and tour leader – local guides will also join you at various stages, ensuring your Caucasus introduction is more than skin-deep.
Expect a busy itinerary with some long travel days. There is a great deal to see and experience in this region. But there is also time set aside for you to do your own thing, whether that’s admiring the architecture of Baku or taking a therapeutic dip at a bath house in Tbilisi.
You’ll visit key destinations, from the famous Geghard and Haghpat monasteries and Lake Sevan in Armenia to Gobustan National Park in Azerbaijan, with its 40,000-year-old rock engravings. But this tour is just as much about the experiences. Sit down with a local winemaking family to learn about their profession and hear a performance of Georgian polyphonic songs; visit an enamel jewellery workshop run by displaced people in Tserovani; or browse the fragrant spice stalls of the famous Telavi Bazaar, your guide arranging tastings as you go.
With a route designed by experts to ensure you get an in-depth insights into Caucasus culture without it ever feeling being rushed, and brilliant local connections that also mean your holiday spreads tourism income to communities and groups that can really benefit from it, this tour is a first-rate introduction to the Caucasus region.

Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.
Planet
We continue to search out accommodation that is suitable for our travellers, while also finding properties that are making concerted efforts to reduce their environmental impact. We include properties that have water-saving measures in place, use renewable energy sources, and are built to complement their surroundings. This trip includes a stay at the Savaneti Hotel near Telavi, Georgia. The Savaneti Hotel is committed to limiting their environmental impact and has in place water and energy reduction initiatives, water conservation programs, supply chain policies and recycling processes. They encourage guests to reuse their towels and linens and say no to daily room servicing to limit water and electricity usage.
Where possible we choose to travel by land rather than air. By minimizing the use of flights on our trips, we are making journeys more stimulating and more sustainable for travellers. This trip through Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia does not include any flights, providing all transport by road. We ensure our vehicles are fuel-efficient and well maintained with regular servicing. We use vehicles that are an appropriate size to suit the group size. For example, we wouldn’t use a 16-seater van if we only had five people travelling with us. We optimize our driving routes to reduce travel time and our carbon footprint, and we turn the engine off when travellers are visiting a site and not in the vehicle.
People
Our trips maximize the opportunity for travellers to engage meaningfully with local culture and communities. Many experiences on our trips also support traditional cultural practices – whether artisanal, culinary or otherwise. In turn, this helps to sustain and preserve these traditional practices so that future generations may continue to learn, enjoy and benefit from them. This trip includes a visit to Ikorta, a jewellery-making social enterprise in the Tserovani IDP Settlement. Ikorta is an enamel workshop that creates employment and training opportunities for primarily refugee women living in the settlement. Travellers will meet the employees, hear about their former lives in the Tskhinvali region, see how they make their jewellery and have the opportunity to design a piece themselves.
The best folk to show you the heart of a destination are the ones that live there, which is why we work exclusively with local leaders. Our leaders are not only travel experts, they’re teachers, travel gurus and enthusiastic purveyors of grassroots experiences. They’ll just as easily steer you through the laneways of a city as help you strike up a conversation with the locals – and all with a smile. On this trip through Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia, travellers will also be joined by local guides in many of the cities and towns visited. In each location these guides will bring to life the destination, its history and what makes it special. There are also opportunities to meet local families, learn from them how to make yoghurt and bread before enjoying a meal with them. ?
