Description of Central America tours
This three-week Central America tour starts in Panama and ends in Guatemala, an overland tour that takes in six countries in total. Travelling by bus and staying in small, locally owned accommodation along the way, this journey of discovery takes you through the magnificent volcanic terrain of Central America, particularly in Nicaragua, but also along the glistening Caribbean coast in places that are well off the beaten path.
The Pan-American Highway that takes you through Panama is, in contrast, a very well beaten path but an historic route along this idyllic isthmus. Going much further back in history is the Ruta Maya, and the ancient archaeology that is dotted around Central America is also something we will get a chance to visit on this tour, such as at Copán in Honduras.
From traditional, indigenous communities to elegant colonial towns, you will dip in and out of many different lifestyles and traditions on this trip, as well as the many biodiverse landscapes which influence these lifestyles. These landscapes also proffer the chance for outdoor adventures, from white water rafting along the Pacuare River in Costa Rica to snorkelling in Bastimentos National Marine Park in Panama. On this trip every day is different and, on many days, even presents you with another country.

Fantastic. Cesar was excellent as the main guide and local guides were top notch. Learned a lot and saw a lot. Sloth close up, volcano hike, rafting, beautiful scenery on the road trip, and great traveling companions. Read full reviewReviewed on 08 Sep 2024 by Kristina Mänd
The itinerary, our guide Jessica, the co-travellers, and the local people made it a memorable trip. The drivers were amazing and the hotels very cute. Read full reviewReviewed on 02 Jan 2023 by Victor Wyatt
Hard to improve on it really, but that was mainly down to Jessica, our wonderful tour guide Read full reviewReviewed on 06 Sep 2023 by Iain Reid
It was all pretty amazing to be honest - different countries, different cultures, different foods - so much crammed into a relatively short space of time. Info about currencies and tipping would have been handy to know well in advance. Read full reviewResponsible Travel
Planet
On our Central America overland tours we visit a number of national parks, including the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve and Bastimentos National marine park in Bocas del Toro. We support their work in conservation and the protection of the species found in this part of the Americas. With thousands of visitors each year, good administration and management of parks is essential in order to preserve these delicate eco-systems and fragile environments. We actively encourage clients to carry all waste out of parks, walk only on designated paths, and not to pick flowers or disturb the natural resources. When staying within these parks we use lodges which work towards sustainable tourism, minimising the negative impact of tourism on the surrounding area.People
On our Central America overland tours we work with small privately owned ground agents who live in the area, have established RT policies in place, and employ local guides and staff. A number of journeys on this Central America overland tour use public transport, the hotels are small, individual properties often run by the owners and their families, we eat in local restaurants serving locally grown produce – our style of travel ensures that as many local people as possible benefit by our being there. This Central America overland tour runs with a maximum of 16 people which helps to minimise the impact on delicate environments.Popular similar holidays
