Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

Costa Rica is the birthplace of ecotourism and as such is also the place where this activity has achieved the highest level of success with responsible environmental policies being held by most hotels and tourist businesses.

We know our wildlife very well and we are committed to conserving it and encourage guests to follow our lead. We believe in preserving our environment and leaving a national park or beach as we found it, therefore we keep the land, sea and waterways free from rubbish and pollution.

We show we understand of why water is too precious to waste and, when it rains, we savoir every drop. We reduce our energy as much as possible and find local renewable energy sources for alternatives. Additionally, to maximise energy we open doors and windows and paint our offices in a bright colours.

We recommend low carbon transport and make the journey as stimulating and sustainable as the stay.

We participate in the Certificate in Sustainable Tourism (CST) program which rates businesses on the degree to which they comply with a sustainable model of natural, cultural and social resource management. Additionally, we only use accommodation that is also certificated by with the Certification for Sustainable Tourism, so we guarantee they have the same standards and principals.

People

We are very familiar with the area and can therefore advise clients to buy any souvenirs or food in local areas and neighbourhoods, spreading the tourism income further.

Additionally, we build, restore and equip using carefully sourced local materials and in the style that tells the cultural and geological story of the landscape, providing the clients with education of the local area.

We support local projects & people through volunteering, fundraising or charity. We offer local people good working conditions, a fair wage, and empower them with good training opportunities.

We sustain jobs and cultural diversity by supporting local craft makers and artisans and by promoting cultural attractions.

We aim to create good relationships between tourists and the local community by spreading a positive message. As well as being able to recognize and address local issues and actively campaign to resolve them.

Sustainable tourism consists of providing direct and/or indirect benefits to the communities that are visited. This is done whenever possible through sustainable activities that protect the environment and the participation in social projects that help local communities and protected areas, always providing a high quality service.
