Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.
Planet
Our Dominica holiday is centered upon an immersive experience in nature. Choosing to explore this 'Nature Island' - an under-the-radar Caribbean gem that prioritizes responsible interactions with the natural beauty that abounds - means that on each trip we are supporting an ethos of sustainability.Instead of the typical beach tourism, Dominica and our top-notch eco-lodge focus on Ecotourism and Geotourism, defined as “tourism that sustains or enhances the geographical character of a place – its environment, culture, aesthetics, heritage, and the well-being of its residents.” You will be staying in a natural sanctuary featuring tropical fruit trees, lush forest, and incredible views of the island's Jurassic peaks surrounded by blue waters.
Throughout the itinerary you will find yourself exploring jungle-clad mountains, pristine waters, impressive waterfalls, hot springs and more - and you can take comfort knowing that each experience and tour is designed to be in tune with nature's needs. We'll visit a bio-diversified tropical farm to learn about their sustainable practices and enjoy a nature walk to learn about a wide assortment of traditional healing plants and natural herbal remedies, passed down for generations among the people.
Upon arrival, guests will receive a re-usable water bottle in order to discourage use of disposable bottles. The property where we'll stay is certified at the highest level for sustainable tourism & quality standards with Dominica’s Nature Island Standards of Excellence and strives to manage waste, energy use, and other needs while ensuring limited disturbance of the ecosystem through continuous monitoring and evaluation. For each meal you'll sample gourmet concoctions made from the island’s abundant organic ingredients and infused with creative Caribbean flavors.
People
In addition to incredible natural surroundings, Dominica also stands out with its locally-driven tourism. Community-owned and operated businesses are the norm, and we are sure to support plenty! Throughout the trip you'll be supporting local organic farmers, local tour guides, local artisans, and even local children and indigenous people through the eco-lodges many community projects. From your knowledgeable and passionate guides you'll learn all about the many elements of Dominica's history that formed the unique culture you find today, from indigenous traditions to the dark chapters of European slave trade, and it's burgeoning entrepreneurial spirit and increasing international visitors. We believe that a sound understanding of the local culture and community is essential to a transformative travel experience, and there is no better way to get that than from hearing through the stories of a local.
We also partner with a local organization that we've chosen to support for this trip. We'll meet with representatives from the organization in order to enage with their work, ask questions, and see first-hand the impact that they create. A portion of trip sales will be donated to this NGO partner.
