Description of Egypt 10 day tour with Nile cruise

Over 10 days this wonderfully luxurious Egypt tour with Nile cruise immerses you in the ancient world, visiting all of the most legendary sites in the company of knowledgeable Egyptian guides.

You’ll begin in Cairo, one of Africa’s most effervescent cities, where your guide will show you new sides to the capital by visiting less-touristy backstreets. Touring these areas makes for a fascinating cultural diversion though the focus is always drawn to Cairo’s iconic landmarks. Just beyond the city, the Great Pyramids of Giza and the enigmatic Sphinx await, their secrets to be unveiled by your Egyptologist guide.

Also unmissable in Cairo, the world-famous Egyptian Museum, which moved to its new site at the foot of the pyramids in 2023 and houses a simply staggering array of treasures including those of King Tutankhamun.

Leaving Cairo you’ll fly south to Aswan, and a hotel overlooking the one of the most beautiful stretches of the mighty Nile. You’ll have a day in this bustling, multicultural city with possible excursions including a boat trip to the Temple of Philae, an early morning visit to the UNESCO-listed Abu Simbel, and the Nubian Museum where you can see a wide range of exhibits tracing the history and culture of the Nubian people.

In Aswan you’ll board a luxury cruise along the Nile. Relax in your en suite cabin with panoramic windows, or on the sun deck with its recliners, bar and plunge pool, between stops at sites including Kom Ombo and Edfu.

Travelling north, after two days your ship reaches Luxor, home to the world’s greatest open-air museum. Highlights of your stay here will include a walking tour of Luxor Temple as it is beautifully illuminated by night, exploring several significant tombs across the Valley of the Kings, and – should you wish – an optional hot air balloon flight over the west bank of the Nile.

The final third of your holiday brings you to a five-star beach resort in Hurghada, on the Red Sea. Here you can snorkel and scuba dive some of Africa’s finest coral reefs, take part in a wide range of adventurous land and sea activities, or simply unwind by the pool.

The return journey to Cairo is normally via road, to limit your holiday’s carbon emissions. You’ll finish with another opportunity to explore Cairo’s vibrant bazaars and backstreets in the company of your guide and the rest of your group before saying your farewells.

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

On this tour we have recently replaced the internal flight from Hurghada to Cairo with an overland drive. This makes more efficient use of the tour vehicle removes the extra CO2 from the use of the flight, and takes about the same time overall now that the new road on this route is completed.

Drinking water and the waste associated by single use plastic water bottles is something we are working hard on in Egypt as well as other destinations. We actively encourage all customers to purchase a bottle from Watertogo prior to departure to reduce or eliminate the need to purchase bottles of mineral water whilst in on tour. Water to Go is a company on a mission to tackle the issue of plastic pollution by providing travelers with reusable filter bottles. These bottles are not your average water containers. They are designed with advanced filtration technology that allows you to safely refill your bottle from natural water sources, taps, and even in places where tap water is not typically considered safe to drink. We have worked closely with Watertogo to bring a 25% discount to all customers who choose to purchase these prior to departure and detailed information is provided within both the tour notes and mentioned within automated pre-departure emails which are sent to customers.

Our Egypt guides are strict in monitoring and preventing littering to protect the sites we visit and waste bins are provided in all vehicles.
Many of the sites we visit are incredibly important historical and natural wonders, and we encourage our travellers to treat these sites as such, sticking to marked paths, not climbing on ruins, picking wild plants or flowers, and avoiding disturbing the local wildlife as much as possible.

As responsible travelers, we recognize the need to reduce our plastic consumption and provide sustainable alternatives to our customers. That's why we've partnered with Water to Go to offer a fantastic solution.

People

In Egypt, we support local crafts makers and artists by visiting a couple of carefully selected local shops. Here travellers can learn about the historic methods of producing papyrus, alabaster and perfumed oils,, as well as purchasing souvenirs if they wish. All products sold in these shops are sourced from the surrounding local communities.

On our Gods of Egypt Tour we only work with local Egyptian guides, all of whom are trained and qualified in Egyptology. We feel this gives our clients the best possible experience of the country in which they are travelling.

To provide a more in depth experience of Egyptian culture, we also take a walking tour through the Nubian Village we stay close to outside Aswan, and through the less visited back streets of Old Cairo before reaching the more touristy sections of the Khan-el-Khalili bazaar.

We make a donation for every customer who visits Egypt which is split between supporting a children's orphanage in Cairo which we have helped for nearly 20 years, and also in doing litter/waste clean up programs in some of the desert areas we visit.
