Our tours in Oman are run in conjunction with a local partner who shares our environmental goals and commitment to operate in a responsible manner.

There are fragile eco-systems in Oman and our guides and drivers provide advice on how to behave to ensure that any negative impact is prevented. For example, whether you are in a traditional Omani mountain village, camping in a bedouin tent in the Wahiba Sands Desert or camping on the beach, our guide will advise families on how to best minimise impact on the place where we stop. This will include taking all waste away with you when camping, buying water in large containers rather than small bottles, to minimise plastic waste, and trying to ensure that all firewood is responsibly sourced.

Our UK office is run as environmentally as possible. The majority of our staff either walk or cycle to work and we operate a primarily paper free environment. We do not produce brochures (which often leads to a lot of waste) but market our tours exclusively on the internet.

People

All of our tours in Oman use local guides which is very important as it not only ensures that travellers are given a unique insight into the way of life and culture in Oman but also ensures that tourist revenue is retained locally and helps tourism to have a positive impact by promoting cultural understanding between locals and visitors. This also means that we can offer our travelling families a genuine contact and experience of Oman. We want both our travellers and the locals you meet along the way to have enjoyable memories of their encounters with one another and this will sow the seeds for travelling children to grow up with empathy and appreciation of other cultures.

Whenever it is possible, we also try to use small locally-owned and family run hotels. These hotels not only provide a better experience for families but also tend to employ from the surrounding villages, ensuring that money is retained locally and spread throughout the area. Where possible, hotels are selected that have been built and furnished using locally sourced materials.

While you are in the Wahiba Sands Desert and exploring at Nizwa, as well as other stops along the way, you may come across communities selling their own handicrafts made locally. If you buy anything from the local people you meet along the way the money you spend will go towards supporting their families and sustaining these smaller out of the way places.

As Oman is a Muslim country it is important that correct advice is given on how to dress; our pre-tour literature covers this in detail, ensuring that travellers (particularly women) know what is appropriate. We also give advice on how to behave during Ramadan (if applicable given the time of year of travel).
