Description of Family adventure holiday in Thailand
This family adventure holiday in Thailand is packed with thrills, unique cultural experiences and unusual accommodation, from floating raft houses to beach chalets and sleeper trains. Taking you well beyond the beaten tourist path, the trip offers a richly authentic take on Thailand that will keep adults and kids alike enthralled.
Your private, tailor made family tour gets underway in effervescent Bangkok, which you’ll explore by river boat, tuk tuk, Skytrain and on foot, taking in the nooks and crannies known only to locals as well as must-see sites. With its bustling markets, side streets teeming with aromatic food stalls, monks wandering the streets to collect alms from the faithful, and ancient temples where the air is thick with incense, Bangkok is unforgettable.
Moving on to Kanchanaburi Province, discover the history of the infamous ‘Death Railway’, as you cross the Bridge on the River Kwai by local train, then peacefully kayak along the river, surrounded by the sounds of the jungle. Here you’ll stay with a local community in one of their traditional floating raft houses. A fantastic way to help tourism income reach places that don’t see a great number of visitors, this is sure to be one of the most memorable experiences of your holiday.
Another comes when you take the sleeper train – kids do love a sleeper train – south to the gorgeous Khao Sok National Park. Immense limestone cliffs draped in jungle soar out of the lakes to form one of the most spectacular landscapes in Thailand. Staying in a tree house(!) you’ll admire the park’s waterfalls, caves and crystal-clear waters by boat, kayak and, when you feel the urge, swimming.
Another certain highlight for families in Khao Sok is the chance to meet the charming residents at an elephant sanctuary – these places depend on income from tourists to provide food for animals found injured or rescued from captivity.
The emphasis of this Thailand family adventure holiday is always on the ‘holiday’, and so it winds to an end with a few days of downtime at a stylish beach resort on Koh Thalu. Here on this idyllic island you can relax and spend some quality time together, whether you’re snorkelling, wandering the beach or simply catching up on your reading in a hammock – the choice is yours.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
Our guide was lovely. We experienced Thailand for the Thais. She was great to guide us through our small adventure and was incredibly caring for our little
family.
2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
Indulge in a full-time guide. It really helps getting around smoothly. Do ask for a better detailed plan - the one we received was exciting to read as inspiration but did not provide enough information in regards to locations (no itinerary on a map provided), driving distances (sometimes we would be surprised to learn from one day to the other that we had 4 hours drive), or in terms of following some things on the plan. The info sheet we received with country tips was interesting yet it referred to Sri Lankan food for example so am not sure how much of it was not a hasty copy/paste. We were also informed that some of the areas we were visiting - especially at the end of the holiday on a island, were high season (hence higher prices)- however we were pretty much the only people there (another couple at best) and the manager said this was low season.
3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
I believe the places we stayed were as locally run as possible and I really appreciated the fact that our guide wass very keen on making sure all service
providers (tuk tuk for example) would be paid fairly and not a price outrageously reduced.
4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
Although we would have appreciated more detailed information, we were so impressed by the country, its people and our guide.

Group sizes: By limiting groups to small sizes we aim to reduce the impact on both local communities and the environment whilst allowing for greater genuine interaction with said communities. It also results in a higher guide/customer ratio thus greater facility for supervision and individual assistance and allows us to use smaller hotels and restaurants and employ the services of more genuinely ‘local’ operators perhaps not otherwise well equipped for larger groups.Destinations: We combine the well known tourist sites with many off-the-beaten-track, rarely visited destinations thus diverting tourist revenue and contact with responsible tourism into areas not usually benefiting as well as providing a more authentic view of the region visited.
Local products: As much as possible we aim to employ local personnel, (guides, drivers, agents etc), use local restaurants and smaller privately owned accommodation. Customers are also encouraged to buy and use local products and services as much as possible in order to support and stimulate the local economy.
Instruction: By explaining our methods and the reasons behind them local agents, guides and hotels are encouraged by us to adopt further responsible tourism practices themselves and guides and drivers are provided with additional training in this respect.
People
This itinerary includes a fascinating look into one of the indigenous ethnic minorities of the region, with a home-stay at the Hmong village of Rom Klao.As well as educating our passenger to the ways of life of another lesser-known people of the region, it provides income directly to the owners of the houses in which we stay as well as indirectly for other members of the village. Passengers are encouraged to make purchases, such as from the village shops and from individual crafts-people specifically, in this instance, embroidery from the women of the village.
We then employ villagers to guide us through the jungle, further enhancing the benefit for the village as well as helping us to build up respectful and trusting relationships with the villagers.
During an unusually cold winter last year we donated warm clothes and blankets to the village.
Information: Providing suitable, relevant information for our customers; to help them to gain a wider understanding of our style of tourism that focuses on learning, genuine interaction with the local communities, reciprocity and cultural exchange processes. To be aware of the potential impact of tourism on the local society, culture and environment, and to behave and dress appropriately with a respect and appreciation for local customs, mores and traditions and a respect for the ecology of areas visited. Our guides and leaders thus facilitate communication of our values to both travellers and local communities, educating them in sustainable tourism practices
