Description of Family holidays to Vietnam

On this fantastic Vietnam family tour you'll travel from the capital Hanoi to Saigon and the Mekong Delta in the far south by way of no less than 6 of the country's fabulous UNESCO World Heritage sites.

Beginning in Hanoi’s bustling Old Quarter we’ll head for the spectacular karst scenery of Halong Bay for an overnight cruise aboard a traditional-style junk and on to equally awe-inspiring Trang An to explore, by boat and bicycle, the ‘Halong of the Paddy-fields’.

From here a ride on the famous ‘Unification Express’ takes us to UNESCO-listed Phong Nga National Park to kayak through some of Southeast Asia’s largest and most spectacular caves and stay in poolside chalets on a local pepper farm. Continuing south further highlights include a boat trip up Hue’s Perfume River, a visit to Danang’s celebrated Golden Bridge and a Vietnamese cookery lesson in historic old Hoi An Town.

A short flight sees us in Ho Chi Minh City (still Saigon to most of its residents) where you’ll discover some of the sites of the country’s vibrant commercial capital and travel by road and boat through the lush landscapes of the Mekong Delta.

A wide range of activities, culture, history both recent and ancient and comfortable hotels along with opportunities to meet plenty of the friendly inhabitants and sample the delicious cuisine, combine to provide a fascinating and rewarding tour of this beautiful region.

This is a private Vietnam family tour and therefore can be organised on dates to suit your family while any activities included can be tailored to suit any age group.

Features:
1. Overnight boat cruise on World Heritage Halong and Bai Tu Long Bays
2. Discover the caves and waterways of stunning Trang An by bicycle, boat and on foot
3. Kayak through the amazing karst landscapes of Phong Nha National Park
4. Visit the imperial tombs of Hue and quaint Hoi An - 2 more UNESCO-listed sites
5. Day tour by boat through the picturesque waterways of the Mekong Delta
6. Contrast the French architecture of elegant Hanoi and the brash, modern bustle of Saigon

Optional extensions
1. A short flight from Saigon takes you to a beach-side resort on the lush tropical island of Phu Quoc
2. From Saigon head to the coast and Mui Ne’s 12 kilometer sandy beach
3. Arrive a few days early and detour to the spectacular mountains and myriad hill-tribes of Sapa and the far north
4. Stop off a couple of days for our fascinating off the beaten track Bangkok tour

Note; this is a private family tour for a minimum of 4 persons and accommodation in 3 to 4* hotels.

Think the most memorable would be the beach stay at the end. Just perfect. The cookery class and bike rides were also a massive hit. Read full review

Fabulous mixture of cultural, historic, scenic and culinary experiences all come together in a beautiful country with genuinely friendly and helpful people. We have recommended this destination and holiday to several of our friends. Read full review

I loved it all but the travelling was more fun than the relaxing at the end. There was so much to see. Read full review

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

Destinations: We combine the well known tourist sites with many off-the-beaten-track, rarely visited destinations thus diverting tourist revenue and contact with responsible tourism into areas not usually benefiting as well as providing a more authentic view of the region visited.

Instruction: By explaining our methods and the reasons behind them local agents, guides and hotels are encouraged by us to adopt further responsible tourism practices themselves and guides and drivers are provided with additional training in this respect.

People

We encourage the sustaining of traditional handicrafts and supporting people with disabilities (in a region where disabilities can utterly preclude gainful employment) by visiting, and encouraging purchases from, the Hong Ngoc Humanity Centre in Sao Do town, near Hanoi. This is an entirely Vietnamese-run NGO, which allows disabled children and young adults to learn vocational skills relating to the manufacture and marketing of handicrafts. More on how we are having a positive impact on Vietnam soon.

Information: Providing suitable, relevant information for our customers; to help them to gain a wider understanding of our style of tourism that focuses on learning, genuine interaction with the local communities, reciprocity and cultural exchange processes. To be aware of the potential impact of tourism on the local society, culture and environment, and to behave and dress appropriately with a respect and appreciation for local customs, mores and traditions and a respect for the ecology of areas visited. Our guides and leaders thus facilitate communication of our values to both travellers and local communities, educating them in sustainable tourism practices

Group sizes: By limiting groups to small sizes we aim to reduce the impact on both local communities and the environment whilst allowing for greater genuine interaction with said communities. It also results in a higher guide/customer ratio thus greater facility for supervision and individual assistance and allows us to use smaller hotels and restaurants and employ the services of more genuinely ‘local’ operators perhaps not otherwise well equipped for larger groups.

Local products: As much as possible we aim to employ local personnel, (guides, drivers, agents etc), use local restaurants and smaller privately owned accommodation. Customers are also encouraged to buy and use local products and services as much as possible in order to support and stimulate the local economy.
