Our Galapagos holidays & tours

The Galapagos Islands are a model of responsible tourism, and Darwin would probably approve of the efforts that go into protecting their natural heritage. Our holiday partners follow strict rules to ensure that the giant tortoises, sea lions and iguanas remain as friendly and fearless of humans as ever. You can enjoy island-hopping aboard small ship cruises piloted by local skippers, land-based multi activity holidays (perfect for families), or a combination of the two. Plus, some of our top holidays are run by people actively involved in the conservation of the places you’ll see – by funding projects and lobbying for the future of the islands.

About our Galapagos holidays

Legendary wildlife

Galapagos comes from the Spanish word for ‘giant tortoise’ – and these gentle animals have become the symbol for the island’s friendly, easy-going wildlife. But there is a wider cast of beasts on the islands, including choruses of sea lions, fantastically coloured iguanas, and birdlife – from the world’s only nocturnal gull to albatrosses. The guides and crews steering our holidays know exactly where to go; they’ll also stick to the strict rules that protect both critters and cruisers. Plus, some of our top holidays offer a donation to the Galapagos Conservation Trust for every trip booked.

Small ships for island-hopping adventures

These islands are the realm of the small ship. Passenger numbers are pleasingly small: by law, the maximum capacity for a vessel is 100 passengers, and you can find even smaller boutique trips in eight-cabin motor yachts and little catamarans. Our top cruises only work with local crews and vessels, alongside naturalist guides certified by the Charles Darwin Research Station. Expertise guaranteed. Most cruises visit the central islands of Isabela, Santa Cruz and San Cristobal – but don’t forget more remote islands like Genovesa, Espanola and Floreana for a positively peaceful passage.

Life on land

Our land-based tours are a great – and underrated – option, especially for those less keen on being confined to the cosy quarters of a yacht. Local is the watchword here. Our trips work with locally owned accommodation and restaurants, so the money you spend doesn’t disappear offshore. You’ll get to try island cooking and spend more time in each area – something you can miss out on when you’re on a cruise. Staying on shore doesn’t mean never leaving dry land, though. We have plenty of boat and snorkelling trips, as well as guided hiking and biking through volcanic vistas.

Inspiring the next generation of marine conservationists

Many wildlife holidays require a good deal of patience and quiet – but not those in the Galapagos, where wildlife is more likely to be lounging on the beach, posing for a photograph. From booking the best activities for families to snagging the roomiest cabins, our holidays can be tailored to your group. Alternatively, sign up to a small group tour for a sociable adventure with other families. There’s nothing quite like bonding over a sighting of a green turtle popping its head up between the waves ahead of you.

Highlights vs. off the beaten track

You’re likely to visit more than one island on our Galapagos holidays – and there many to choose between. The joy of our small ship cruises is that you can see a different island every day. That includes smaller isles that many visitors miss – like Bartolome, famous for penguins, or Santa Fe, with its forests of cacti. As for highlights, most people will make stops in Santa Cruz for the Charles Darwin Research Station and to see giant tortoises. If you choose our land-based trips, staying on the largest island of Isabela means you can hike volcanoes and enjoy fantastic snorkelling from the shore.
