Description of Gozo family activity holiday in Malta
The island of Gozo is a little-known Mediterranean wonder that is home to one of our most popular family adventures. Just half an hour from Malta by ferry, it showcases an extraordinary natural environment ideal for an activity-filled week away. We have made the most of our local connections and expertise to find the very best locations and activities in and around the island. With group sizes of no more than 24, you will enjoy a highly personalised experience.
All activities are included in the holiday price. You’ll have a guided boat trip around the picturesque coast, with the chance to go snorkelling and diving at some of the top scuba sites in Europe. The Gozitan cliffs offer excellent spots for rock climbing, while its many inlets are perfect for kayaking, both of which will be on the agenda during your stay.
Based in the northeastern village of Xaghra, you will be close to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Ggantija Temples, which at 5500 years old are amongst the world’s oldest freestanding structures. Gozo has been occupied by everyone from the Ancient Romans and the Arabs to the French and the British, with evidence of this rich history very much present in its lifestyle, language, and cuisine. The week will be filled with opportunities to learn more about the local way of life first-hand and tasting island delicacies. This makes it ideal for families looking for that perfect mix of activities and culture.
Based at the rustic and welcoming Cornucopia Hotel, you will be within easy walking distance of the main town and will be able to make use of the hotel’s facilities, including its sun-soaked terrace and swimming pool.

All of it was fantastic. Could not have been better. The holiday provides a great combination of activities and is so well organised. Read full reviewReviewed on 15 Aug 2017 by Diana Lloyd
So many highlights! Our youngest loved the rock climbing, which was expertly supervised and our eldest loved the snorkelling and lazy boat day best. As for us, it's hard to choose, the Eco Day was much more than we anticipated and we really felt privileged to share their Gozo culture.... Read full reviewResponsible Travel
Planet and people
The island of Gozo is just 9 by 4 miles in size meaning that all the activities for this holiday are close together keeping motorized journey times to a minimum, any transfers are group transfers. On such a small island tourism plays an important social and economic role. With limited work opportunities, many young Gozitans are forced to leave the island they love and move to Malta in search of work opportunities. The development of tourism is helping to stem this flow.
The hotel we use has been deliberately chosen as it is Gozitan owned and has an entirely Gozitan staff. The hotel also actively promotes Gozitan heritage as the central part of the hotel is a 350+ year old farmhouse which has been sensitively converted to keep its character whilst the restaurant menu actively promotes locally sourced foods and traditional dishes. This ensures that the economic benefits remain on the island and are spread beyond the hotel’s walls. The hotel is situated on the edge of Xaghra village, within walking distance to the main square where you can support a variety of locally owned restaurants and small shops. It is also the perfect place to interact with the friendly locals as it is very much a traditional village and not a tourist resort.
Our activity providers are truly passionate about their island. They wish to ensure, as do we, that the future of this pristine environment and the local heritage is preserved for generations. This is imparted to our guests throughout the week as clients are given a greater understanding of the heritage and culture, and what must be done to preserve it, in an active way. There is a strict leave no trace policy on all activities and clients will also visit some agri tourism projects throughout their stay.
