Holiday information

No Snow?
The quality of the natural snow is normally very high in the Tatra Mountains, not icy, but nice powdery snow. The main snowfall is usually during January and February and this is the time when we run most of our winter activity holidays. If there is not enough natural snow and the conditions are not good, we always have "no snow" activities on offer. This is usually winter walking, visiting caves, castles, or even relaxing in outdoor thermal pools.

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

We offer you the opportunity to get to know Slovakia in small groups, which is better for the environment. Where it is practical, we use public transport, such as buses or trams, to get us to our activities. This minimises the impact on the environment and saves travellers money. This money can then be spent in other local places, such as a traditional restaurant, thus benefitting the local economy even more. For most of the trip, our stay will be in the Tatra National Park (TANAP). Their aim is to protect the park’s flora and fauna, and by being here, we are helping in this mission. Our local leaders are fully versed in the principles of travelling responsibly in order to prevent damaging the local environment, and these values will all be passed on to our travellers. We respect the mountains and forests, never go off marked trails during snow-shoeing, adhere to the rules of the National Park, and treat all animals with a lot of care and consideration.

We recommend restaurants that use mainly locally produced or grown food. We support customers who require vegetarian and low dairy foods, which reduce CO2 emissions. Plus, travelling by train forms a key part of reducing CO2 emissions.

People

Our company ethos is to organise tours for small groups and individuals so people can experience adventure responsibly. As a local, family-run business, we have built-up fantastic relationships with communities throughout Slovakia, and can provide the opportunity to connect with, and experience, local customs, culture and way-of-life first-hand. During this tour, we will only use local services. We will stay in locally-owned accommodation, which supports small Slovakian businesses. Staff at the hotels we choose will usually be family members, or from the same town, providing income to the local community and a welcome insight into the traditions of Slovakia for our travellers. We eat in traditional restaurants, so our travellers can sample local delicacies.

Shopping
Some kind of shopping usually makes a part of every holiday. This might be food, presents for your loved ones or just perhaps a small souvenir for yourself. To support the local economy and small businesses we support shopping at family run shops and local markets rather than big supermarkets. We inform travellers where and why to buy locally produced goods such as souvenirs, crafts, local traditional specialities and any other products that are available in the region and how beneficial it is to support the local communities by buying their homemade products (wine, cheese, honey, wooden toys, pottery... ).
