1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

The guides and egyptologists!!!! They are amazing!

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Tips is a big issue!!! I don't think that it is emphasised enough and there is no documents on the tour, that states that you have over 6 guides, who each have to be paid $15-20 per person per day...that is an enormous amount of funds, on top of the payments for the trips. It was fortunate that we brought money, but definitely it is NOT clear how much to pay and how many people, including the cruise all staff payments, plus individual staff payments, drivers, porters etc....PLEASE BE WARNED!!! It is a lot of money on top of your tour price that no one tells you!!!!!

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

no, as we used 150 plastic bottles, between 2 people, which are not recycled. Washing sheets and towels is constant in the hotels, so we asked for our rooms not to be cleaned to stop it. The environmental impact of us travelling to Egypt, with domesticated flights, cars, buses and boats is a negative and we knew that, so no amount of explaining that you will not destroy the environment is a joke! We helped some people, as we tipped, but not really local people.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

For an amazing time, it is truly a once in a lifetime experience. We were on our own on tour, with individual attention and care with the most amazing people from Hassan, who pays so much attention to detail and does not get paid enough, to Doa our guide in Cairo, who is a fountain of knowledge, to the legendary Hammie, who inspired us to learn and understand the history of Egypt, to Mohammed from Luxor to Hurghada, who allowed us to question and learn about his culture and religion. These are the people that are Egypt!!! They should be paid more! They are amazing and we will never forget them and even have them on our wats app to share information. You cannot underestimate the power of people talking to people. The sites in Egypt are unbelievable and they are forever in our minds, but it's the people that make the tour, one to talk about for the rest of our lives. I wonder about staying in the 5 star hotel in Luxor before heading to Hurghada, would it be better to head straight there, to have 3 day exploring that amazing place? just a suggestion.

Thank you for your feedback about your trip with us. I'm delighted you had an amazing time and in particular found all our local guides and representatives so helpful. As you've noted, there isn't anywhere on the res travel tour page to show inclusions and exclusions, but we do explain all these clearly on our website which we refer people to as soon as they enquire. We now ask for 2 payments at the start of the trip - these are to cover all the entrance fees to the sites visited, and for a tipping kitty. These are all explained on the site, and in the tour briefing at the start of the trip. You then only need to pay the Egyptologist tour guide at the end, and if numbers are low on a date, that would be one guide in Cairo, and then a different one for the Aswan to Luxor section of the trip on the cruise. The idea of the tipping kitty is so that we can pay tips on your behalf to a wide range of people you will come across during the trip. It covers the various drivers taking you around in each location, train guards, hotel porters, hotel housekeeping staff, guards at the sites, felucca / cruise crews, our local representatives in each city who help with all the transfers, hotel check-ins etc.. We do try hard with this kitty system to reduce the impact of constantly being asked for tips as you go along. Other payments during the trip that would come to us would then only be for any extra optional tours you may choose to take (eg. hot air balloon flights, extra museum or sightseeing visits not included in the set itinerary). While the version of our Nile Valley and Red Sea tour that you chose does include a flight to Aswan and a Nile cruise (rather than the less impactful sleeper train and felucca sailboat trip that some of our other trips use), we do try in other areas to reduce the holiday's emissions and to support the local economy. We have removed the flight from Hurghada to Cairo that we have used in the past, and do that journey by road now instead. And whenever we can, we do combine our travellers on this tour and another for the journeys from Luxor to Hurghada, and Hurghada to Cairo, to avoid duplicating vehicles and emissions there. All guides and representatives are Egyptian locals, and our own business is partly Egyptian owned too. The number of water bottles used is obviously a concern and we are always working on better provisions for water to avoid plastic waste. We now recommend people bring filter bottles with them and have arranged discounts for our clients. These filter bottles can always be filled up in your hotel room, and we are trying to find restaurants and places during the trip that will let you fill them without charging you the same as they would for a water bottle. We've tried several approaches for enabling refills from water we provide in our vehicles, but have had various issues with these (eg. keeping large water containers cold), We are determined to keep trying and find a solution that works and will get used by as many people as possible. Thank you for your itinerary suggestion. However, we do feel that there is so much to see in Luxor, that we don't want to rush people's time there. We are however happy to customise the itinerary even on group departures and add extra days by the Red Sea in Hurghada before you return to Cairo to finish the trip and fly home. Or, people can fly straight home from Hurghada and avoid the Hurghada/Cairo drive.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Abu Simbel is great but maybe better thh hi I had to do than spend 7 hours on the road for a rushed two hour visit.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes. Many local staff

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Pyramids, the lovely couple from Australia booked on same tour

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Skip one in Alexandria from Cairo. Not worth 6 hr drive from one polluted, congested city to another and back, review tour/option times since breakfast is skipped and boxed breakfasts (4 on my week) are horrible; check on payout for options since local currency not accepted; we were lead to believe tips for drivers and day guides were collected sheaf yet the drivers and guides denied this

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Certainly paid for drivers and guides, the private cars and small vans were polluters (although the heat and fumes make them necessary); plastic water bottles provided by tours got recycled (pretty small concession)

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

I loved it. The confusion over tips prepayment etc not, skipping my favorite meal due to 4 am starts, the heat, pollution, congestion are things you learn to expect outside my home country. All part of the vacation experience.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

The Nile Cruise

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Be aware that this trip packs in a lot! Be prepared for very early starts and packed days.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

I got the impression that all tourism is vital to the economy. The guides strongly directed us to certain opportunities to purchase in what they regarded as reputable products, and included clean toilets and explanations of certain trades, ie. Alabaster, essential oils. Tips were taken as a whole amount at the start of the trip, and hopefully they were distributed appropriately to the porters, cleaning and restaurant staff, drivers etc.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

A lovely, packed itinerary enriched by outstanding guides.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Seeing Fez and Rabat were very interesting. Saharan camel ride was great too

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

At moment it says take a water bottle but you have to buy bottled water everywhere so although not ideal I didn’t use my water bottle. Pack for all temps too.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

A little in local people but not on water!

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

8/10 very good but I’m not a shopper so would prefer more walking and less rug/leather/pottery stops.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Difficult to single out one part, as it was all good. The combination of temples and other activities such as the Nubian village and felucca, was good.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

The train from Cairo to Aswan is very basic. Unless one really wants the experience, an upgrade to the flight would be advisable.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

The use of local guides and the benefit generally of tourism to the local economy is beneficial.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

An excellent holiday. Really pleased that we went.

Dear Austin, Thank you for your feedback about your trip with us. We do ask for 2 payments at the start of the trip - these are to cover all the entrance fees to the sites visited, and for a tipping kitty. The idea of that kitty is so that we can pay tips on your behalf to a wide range of people you will come across during the trip. It covers the various drivers taking you around in each location, train guards, hotel porters, hotel housekeeping staff, guards at the sites, felucca crews, our local representatives in each city who help with all the transfers, hotel check-ins etc.. Unfortunately, even with this kitty arranged, tourists can still get asked for more tips during the trip. This is part of the local culture, though we do try hard with this kitty system to reduce the impact on our travellers as much as possible. Other payments during the trip that would come to us would only be for any extra optional tours you may choose to take (eg. hot air balloon flights, extra museum or sightseeing visits not included in the set itinerary). There are also a lot of local touts, and people selling souvenirs who will try and approach tourists during the trip. This is something that our guides try and protect you from as best they can, but it is not something they can prevent completely. While the version of our Nile Valley and Red Sea tour that you chose does include a flight to Aswan and a Nile cruise (rather than the less impactful sleeper train and felucca sailboat trip that some of our other trips use), we do try in other areas to reduce the holiday's emissions to support the local economy. 1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

We loved every aspect of our holiday. It was all so memorable and exciting thanks to the excellent organisation and knowledge of all staff.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Be prepared for lots of early starts and if possible stay at the Red Sea for an extra night to relax.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

It benefited local people as all tour guides and reps were local. Some environmental impacts could be reduced by taking the land option rather than flying.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Our holiday was just amazing, we saw, did and learnt so much about Egypt and Egyptian History. Our tour guides Honey and Mohammed were both incredible. I think now we are home we will look back and reflect on our trip and think Wow, what an incredible experience.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

All the sites and experiences were amazing, but what made the trip most memorable was the extensive knowledge and personal attention provided by our guide Big Mo - nothing was too much trouble.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

The tour notes provided by the operator were very accurate and helpful in preparing for the trip. If something isn’t quite as you expected it, remember our guide, Big Mo’s, phrase “It’s all part of the experience”.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

The benefit to local people was that the trip provided jobs and anyone who provided a service to us was appropriately tipped. The trip did not reduce environmental impact but increased it, particularly by the extensive use of plastic (most of which seems to end up on the banks of any water channel in Egypt) and by energy and food wasted in some of the luxury hotels we stayed in. No evidence of nature conservation in Egypt, but certainly conservation of historical sites.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Am amazing experience.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

It was all memorable from start to finish. There was only my sister and myself in the group so having a personal guide made it even more special. All the temples were different but all amazing.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

You have to be prepared for very early mornings and lots of travelling from place to place. The hotel were great but there wasn’t a lot of time to enjoy their facilities.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Egypt relies on tourism and during Covid it has been very difficult for many of them. They are so pleased to see us all returning and were friendly and helpful.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Excellent

review 31 Dec 2022

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Seeing the spectacular monuments

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Think carefully about whether you really want the train travel, which thankfully I didn’t do. Also sleeping on a felucca in the Egyptian winter is probably not a great idea.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

It benefitted local people financially but had a negative effect in terms of how they view tourists and people from outside Egypt. We’re only good for money. This is noticeable everywhere, and indeed, more so than in most countries I’ve visited. I could see nothing related to reducing environmental impacts nor supporting conservation. These subjects were not broached by guides, despite in some areas being surrounded by trash, particularly plastic.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

A good holiday, marred by the way locals view tourists and one guide who shouted his ‘pearls of wisdom’ at us like we were kids.

review 24 May 2022

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Seeing the remains of ancient history

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Did not positively impact environment. In any way. Did not really give support to local people except for the fact that being there supported there # 1 industry tourism

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

I would have liked more interaction with the local artisans not just the shop keepers who were selling products from China. The personnel from the operator were very helpful pleasant and knowledgeable
