1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

In the positive area, we were very satisfied with the hotels selected - with the exception of the EcoLodge where it was not the ecological aspects which disturbed us but the lack of hygiene and the lack of cleaning. These are basic points and there is no excuse for a lack of cleanliness. The organisation was generally smooth, the driver / guide (ali) was kind, helpful and always professional.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Be prepared for everyone with whom you come into contact asking for a tip and believing it is their right to overcharge at every opportunity.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Not more than any other holiday

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

We felt that Amy did what she could to stay in contact despite the problems which occurred when the Israeli border was closed. The Jordan agent demanded - and recieved - JD50 to take us from the border to the hotel on the Dead Sea - as the Crowne Plaza was fully booked we went to the Ramada hotel. We very much feel that we were ripped off with this, either the operator or the Jordanian Agent should have swallowed this as grace and favour in the circumstances. This leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

Thank you for your feedback. As we have discussed privately in length since your return, there were unfortunately difficulties with your trip due to the conflict in Israel & Gaza which arose during your travels. Our main priority was to ensure your safety. I am sorry to hear the feedback about the Ecolodge, we have gusts stay here on a regular basis and always receive such glowing reviews - in light of your feedback we have spoken to the lodge and they have assured us they are investigating. It is noted in our itineraries, but perhaps we need to make it more evident that we choose to work with as many hotels and suppliers who support the local community as possible (for example all drivers and guides are local). The evening you attended at Petra Kitchen, not only uses only local produce and chefs, but helps support vulnerable women and children in Jordan through the Jordan River Foundation. This foundation was set up to initiate women's projects to provide employment and empower women to enhance their livelihoods and it continues to generate income for vulnerable families. At Feynan Ecolodge the property employs all of its staff from the local Bedouin communities within the Dana Biosphere and directly benefits around 80 families (approx 400 people). They purchase the majority of their food from suppliers in the local village (the rest comes from within a 40km radius of the lodge), the bread served at the lodge is made by a local Bedouin women in her family tent and the clay water jars (used instead of plastic bottles) are from a Jordanian women's cooperative where women make pottery to earn an income. The lodge is renowned for using only solar powered electricity and all of the candles which light the lodge at night are made locally. We will make sure such initiatives are made clearer to our future guests.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

All the places we went to were amazing in their own tight. The most disappointing was the museum of the Dead Sea scrolls where only a paper copy was on view, no translation snd nothing else to see.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Jordan is a very relaxed easy going country with wonderful people so dress code like uk. Holy places in Israel need to cover up. Both countries very expensive.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

No not at all, little evidence of conservation as everywhere we went in both countries, the huge amounts of plastic everywhere in urban and rural areas was overwhelming. Really spoilt which was once prestige countries.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Excellent as all guides and drivers were excellent.

Read the operator's response here:

We appreciate your comments about the guides – our local partners always employ local Jordanian guides and despite the difficulty of re-training and retaining excellent hospitality staff in the aftermath of the pandemic, we are always reassured that our guides are friendly, warm, and accommodating, which I trust allows for a good conversational exchange and cultural appreciation. Unfortunately, the Gulf countries are still lacking in terms of waste management and recycling facilities so as plastic use increases all over the world, they are still not adequately equipped on a national level to cope with the disposal. We remain committed to working with our hotel and operational partners to make changes and reduce the personal impact of our visiting guests where possible.
