1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
The beautiful Amalfi Coast, a stunning view at every turn, Mount Vesuvius and Pompeii were awesome and our superb guide Roberta.2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
The walking is harder than leisurely. Lots of steps down so not good if you have knee problems. Definitely worth taking good walking boots and poles, soooo worth it when you get up to the top.3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Definitely benefited local people, used all local services and guides. Walking always reduces environmental impact. The hotel staff at Hotel Due Torri were so friendly and welcoming, very kind, everything was easy going and nothing too much trouble.4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
Exploring the Puglia region with our leader, Tancredi and a wonderful group of fellow travellers2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
Make sure you have ready cash for food, drinks, excursions. Enjoy outside adventure, walking, climbing and learning about different cultures. This trip is not a luxury holiday.3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Yes. Definitely.4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
Leader: Tancredi gets 5 stars from me. He was very articulate and spoke carefully so that we could all understand. He listened to our suggestions and gave instructions re meeting times ect. He was passionate & knowledgeable about the Puglia region. Group of travellers: 5 stars. we were all keen walkers, interested in exploring and learning about the region while also enjoying each other’s company. Puglia Walking: five stars. A wonderful region to discover. I arrived in Bari two evenings before the start and so had time to explore this great city. A shame it’s not on the agenda. Start and Ends: 3 stars. I strongly suggest that the tour start in Bari on the Saturday morning or end here for one day. Our first day was lost because the arrival time was so late. Time in Alberobello felt rushed. Bari, Ostuni and Matera were the highlights for me.Rosemary Morle review 19 Jun 2023

Herculaneum and Vesuvius. Excellent guides for both places.2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
Extend your trip a few days and stay in Naples for the archaeological museum. Well worth it - an excellent opportunity to see the stunning mosaics and other finds from Herculaneum and Pompei.3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Yes definitely. All local (excellent) guides, hotel very Italian and staff obviously all local.4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
Climbing Vesuvius. Positano.2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
Book extra days to see the things this holiday didn’t allow for - the days were full with walking and the evenings were all at the hotel dining room - no time to visit the local area other than the one day off in the itinerary.3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
So many tourists, buses and traffic in Amalfi - fumes etc cannot be good for the environment4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
7/10Read the operator's response here:
Hi Sue, thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately, you travelled to the Amalfi Coast in its busiest month of the year which is why there was such an influx of tourists. I would recommend travelling at a less busier time such as March- April or October-November to avoid the crowds. As there are no trains in the Amalfi Coast and the bus services are very poor and sporadic means that we have to use our own private vehicle for our customers on the tour however as part of our Nature First initiative we plant enough trees to not only offset every passenger on the trip but actually plant more than that so we give back more to the planet than what we take! The hotel that we use the Due Torri is also a family run hotel that we have used for years which benefits the locals by not using big chains!

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
Most memorable was walking with a group that included two people in their mid eighties… who managed to do almost all the walks….. although had the weather been the usual temperature for this time of year, they would have struggled…. Fortunately it was unseasonally cold. And the visit to Villa Cimbrone.2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
What is not made clear is that three of the walks entail a descent down uneven stone steps…. Average number of steps is 1500. Anyone with knee problems would find this both uncomfortable and potentially harmful.3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
The hotel DueTorri was outstanding and all the staff were family, extended family or local. The rooms were wonderfully warm, very necessary after walking in horizontal rain, and heated by solar panels. Many in my group were curious about the trees and plants on the walks and as a garden designer I was able to identify many of them as I live in Tuscany and am familiar with some but not all as some are only indigenous in the south. It seemed a lost opportunity for the guided not to be able to identify plants on our walks.4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
Day 3 and day 6 included free time in Amalfi…. Once was quite enough as the town is small and even in mid April was packed with cruise ship crowds… Day 6, in my opinion was disappointing. A bus to Ravello, ok, but then a stone step descent to Amalfi … Again. The Cookery demonstration on day 3 was again disappointing. Watching a chef pile three ingredients into a industrial pasta maker was underwhelming. Also compiling a tiramisu…. It seems another lost opportunity to not demonstrate some of the simple dishes that we were served in the restaurant. Much was talked about the value of the Mediterranean Diet and its impact on good health and the longevity of the people in the region…. How to make caponata for example. I was the only person in the group who had eaten it before or preparing Riccio Di Sarno, sprouting broccoli…Alan Chaffey review 24 Sep 2023

Mateo the guide was brilliant; the walks and food all good. My issue was with the hotel. I was contacted by the organising company a few days before the trip to say I was in a separate apartment away from the hotel. I reluctantly agreed after being told there were others on the trip who would be there too. There wasn't - I was the only one in the apartments which were about three minutes from the hotel; I am also a single traveller so it wasn't good. However I decided to see it out even though it wasn't ideal. At 9.00pm on the third night at dinner I was told to pack my stuff and leave it at the door for the following morning as I was being moved to another apartment. I felt that this was unfair, not only being separate from my fellow travellers, but being messed about again. I complained the following day and eventually got a room in the hotel. I cannot speak Italian but I've a fair idea what the hotel owner's comments were when I said I wasn't happy. I've no intention of using this hotel again, or even the company I travelled with.Read the operator's response here:
Hi Alan, thank you for your review. Unfortunately, this is at the fault of the hotel as the Hotel Due Torri asked us 4 days before the departure to contact solo travellers such as yourself to see if anyone would accept an alternative accommodation nearby because they had overbooked themselves. When we spoke to you we are grateful that you accepted the offer straight away along with a 10 drink package that the Due Torri gave you for the inconvenience. We are sorry that you had to change the hotel once the holiday had started, this should not of happened. As it was the hotel that was at fault we have spoken to the owner Nicola to make sure that this situation does not happen again.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
I really liked Ravello and the Villa Cimbrone -, quiet ,beautiful and chic. Stunning views when the sky cleared on walk of the Gods. Second visit to Pompeii but just as impressive to be reminded of the amazing sophistication of Romans in 79AD I loved the food and the pizza making. The camaraderie of the group and the excellent guide Tony who embellished the walks with snippets of interesting info.2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
Check weather forecast and take appropriate gear. Limber up the legs prior to departure3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Holiday organisation used local drivers, guides, hotel staff etc Showcased homely Italian cooking from fresh, local ingredients4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
Very good, gave a 4 as expectation not fully met due to appalling weather and therefore reduced walks and poor views on several days. Appreciate the weather is no one’s fault! Also rather dark attic hotel room and need to walk up 4 flights of stairs with a heavy suitcaseLisa Payne review 5 Oct 2022

great with the exception of the very poor food. uninteresting and badly cooked. poor lunch time sandwiches. Would think carefully before booking with this operator again if that was the standard of the hotel food. Otherwise organisation and guides were excellent.Read the operator's response here:
We would like to thank Susan for her feedback, although we are very sorry that one aspect of the accommodation fell below her expectations. We have been using the Hotel Due Torri for more than 20 years and the feedback we receive about its food is usually extremely positive, with many clients describing it as their trip highlight.
Nevertheless, we would not wish to downplay Susan’s disappointment with the included meals on her trip, and whilst we hope that her experience was a one-off, we have passed her comments on to the hotel’s management team and will be closely monitoring the feedback we
receive on this subject going forward to ensure that the food continues to meet our high standards.

Day in Capri with beautiful weather and the day in Herculaneum and Pompeii.2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Not sure. I didn’t exactly feel any of those, not really.4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
I had a wonderful leader in Eduardo who looked after us as if we were his children. The hotel room was ok but could be better. Holiday was successful and enjoyable because of Eduardo. He made everything so interesting and is so knowledgeable. The private bus drivers were extremely pleasant and good drivers. I do think you should get the hotel to sort out their lack of instant hot water from showers and clean the shower heads so that water comes through. They need to do something about the food. Or perhaps you need to pay them more money so they could buy more fish and proper size pieces of meat ingredients.Read the operator's response here:
We would like to thank Honor for her feedback, whilst we were pleased that she had a good holiday overall, we are sorry to hear she was left feeling that her trip didn’t have much benefit to the local communities and environment. We would like to take this opportunity to highlight that the meals provided on this trip is made up of local produce. We appreciate that when group meals are provided, the options may be more limited than an a la carte menu, however, would like to reassure Honor that a fair rate is paid and we do generally receive very good feedback for this trip.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
The combination of walking and sightseeing; exploring the village life in Bomerano.2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
Take some Arnica cream or gel! Walking up and down stairs all day strains legs differently than just walking up and down a hill. I have discovered muscles I did not know I had! Also, take some wet tissues in order to "wash" hands before the sandwich lunch whenever it is not possible to stop at a restaurant or bar, which is definitely the case in low season. Take layers to put on, as the temperature changes quite significantly with altitude.3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
We did improve the turnover of the small supermarket next to our hotel, as well as of the two restaurants and some cafes we visited. I do not think our trips reduce environmental impacts, quite the contrary. We hand to use minibuses to get from A to B as local public transport is scarce. And as to conservation, we most probably made erosion worse by walking on paths that we saw were affected by heavy rain and collapsed in places.4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
Seeing Herculanum and Pompeii makes you think and reflect on what lessons we should draw for the future. Seeing the impact of nature on steep slopes makes you more aware of the fragility of our environment in the days of sudden weather events.Rosie Mogan review 7 Oct 2020

1. Walking the path of the Gods. 2. Day trip to Capri. 3. Walking the crater at Vesuvius. 4. Fabulous food.2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
This holiday is marketed as leisurely to moderate. Having taken many walking holidays, this is deffinately moderate. Make sure you do some hill walking before you go otherwise your knees and calves will suffer. As stated in previous reviews, there are lots of uneven steps - literally thousands!!! The walking is either up, up, up or down, down, down - there is little wallking on the flat. Be prepared for the rain - when it rains it really rains.3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
All of the above.4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

I did think that the hotel and the family it was run by greatly benefited from being used by the operator. Not sure about environmental impact, I had to use private transport to the hotel because my flight arrived after the group transfer. However, someone else had the same arrangement. I believe it should have been possible to coordinate both our transports so we only would have needed one taxi.4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Being with my dear friends...and the day trip to Mamma Agata's Cooking School (not on the tour operators agenda however).2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
The tour operators brochure mischaracterizes the difficulty of this trip, calling this a "leisurely to moderate walk" (Level 2) and says it is "at your own pace." I generally walk about 4-5 miles every day at about 4 mph, but I do not live in a mountainous area at a higher altitude. I was unable to keep up with the group from the first walking day and was advised to find something else to occupy my time. The primary walking group (those who completed the treks) was extremely fit and the walking including thousands of steps up and down rough, uneven stairs through difficult terrain. There were even complaints about those stopping to take photos. If you have any concerns about your abilities, I recommend you select the self-guided option or look for another area of the world for hiking.3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
The town, the hotel and all of the people and experiences we encountered on this trip had a local focus and highlighted the environment as well as the value of small agriculture and food production in the Amalfi region.4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
This is difficult for me. I arranged and paid for several of my own days on this tour because of my inability to meet the physical stamina and strength needed to complete even one of the "walks". If you are certain you can keep an excellent pace in very difficult terrain, I would highly recommend this. But I was very disappointed in the rating system and would definitely not take this trip if I had it to do over again. I might select self-guided and do the trip at my own pace with my husband. The hotel, the service and the food were all excellent...Hideko Cruickshank review 26 Nov 2017

Just like our own Lake District there are lakes because of the abundance of water and steep hillsides. Both need to be taken into account when packing. My top tip would be to have a comfortable pair of shoes and light waterproofs.3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
I was very pleased that all the facilities we used were owned and run by local people. We also made good use of local transport systems to get to places of interest.4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
An excellent choice for anyone who wants to connect with the area and experience the peace and tranquillity.Louise Jones review 4 Sep 2017

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
The scenery, the panoramic views along the coast are absolutely breathtaking! Walking up to and around the top of Vesuvius was also a highlight of the trip.2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
Read the trip notes carefully and prepare for the weather. Good walking boots/shoes are essential and trekking poles useful. Do prepare for the walks before you go. They are moderate walks which are challenging at times, as there are some steep ascents and descents and of course there are lots and lots of steps!! If you go in August, it is very, very hot and the walks take a lot longer than you might think.3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Yes. We stayed in a delightful family run hotel and ate local produce over the course of the week. We also used local guides at Pompeii, Vesuvius and Herculaneum and local transport was also used.4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
Absolutely fantastic! It exceeded all expectations. The staff at the hotel were so welcoming and friendly and the scenic walks were very, very enjoyable. Our group leader Suzy was also an amazing guide and her passion, knowledge and love for the area enhanced the whole experience. It was my first walking trip, but certainly not my last!Anne Monks review 7 Nov 2016
