Kyrgyzstan holidays
Climbers, trekkers and cultural adventurers are making their way to Kyrgyzstan in similar numbers to those who once used the Silk Road and if you’re looking to join this merry band then the Tien Shan Mountains and sprawling wilderness areas are yours to behold. Kyrgyzstan holidays will bring you into contact with both the landscapes and the nomadic people that represent the rugged resilience of life in Central Asia.

10 out of 10. Fantastic guides - friendly, entertaining and incredibly knowledgeable. (more)Hilary Bourne
It was very good - but almost like 2 separate trips. The first part has long drives in the minibus into magnificent countryside. You are immersed in local life more, it is much less touristy and you have some great hikes. The second half in Uzbekistan is for the most part, a more traditional city sites tour with the typical tourist trappings. (more)Judith Taylor
Some great landscapes, especially Kyrgyzstan, some wonderful Islamic architecture, fascinating markets, very friendly people. Great to experience such a different environment with like-minded travellers. The night in the yurt and stepping outside in the morning to see the wonderful landscape. (more)Will Mouger

We were able to get a small sense of what the Silk Road merchants must have experienced, and also an insight into some pretty remote parts of Central Asia. (more)Anne Teal

Memorable parts?
The stunning scenery.
Tips?
Need to be aware that there is no single supplement so you will be sharing (unless an odd number) tents, yurts and hostels with one or several people on a
mixed sex basis and varied ages. You will be part of cook groups (on rotation) for breakfast, lunch and dinner when wild camping and you will also take part in truck cleans and possible inventory of food stocks.

To a reasonable degree.

Probably Khiva, wandering it ourselves having had a tour the day before and
finding a trapeze show before a lovely dinner on a terrace with a view of the
town.... being invited up to dance after dinner in a restaurant by super friendly
diners celebrating in samarkand and then bumping into one of them the next day at their stall in the bazaar
Tips?
Learn a few phrases, it's really appreciated. Make sure you like history, if
you don't this probably isn't the ... (more)Caitriona Farrell
Memorable parts?
Traveling along the Pamir Highway and seeing fantastic scenery
Tips?
High altitude is a given. It's better to rise gradually, so the direction Dushanbe to Bishkek might be easier.
Local benefits?
Absolutely. We visited local restaurants and stayed with local people.

Memorable parts?
Walking in the Kyrgyz mountains.
Tips?
Be prepared to be flexible, pack light.
Local benefits?
Interaction with local people was good. Difficult to evaluate environmental impact. Use of personal water bottles is a good idea, but drinking water is mainly
supplied in single use plastic bottles. Conservation is probably supported only by the fact that as tourists you bring much needed dollars into the country.

Memorable parts?
Mosque and shrine in Mashad - but so difficult to choose one amongst so many places visited on this amazing adventure
Tips?
Be prepared for long days and early starts. Walking boots and water bottles not essential as walking easily done in walking sandals, and water providied in
plastic bottles in most hotels.
Local benefits?
Supported local people by visiting areas of the normal tourist route and therefore putting money into their pockets
