The most memorable was taking 3 hours for the border crossing from Uzbekistan to Turkmenistan. Appreciating the historical importance of the different waves of civilizations in developing The Silk Road and the different resulting cultures, was interesting. (more)Faye Walker

Be prepared to be flexible, pack light.

Interaction with local people was good. Difficult to evaluate environmental impact. Use of personal water bottles is a good idea, but drinking water is mainly
supplied in single use plastic bottles. Conservation is probably supported only by the fact that as tourists you bring much needed dollars into the country.

High altitude is a given. It's better to rise gradually, so the direction Dushanbe to Bishkek might be easier.

Absolutely. We visited local restaurants and stayed with local people.
