1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Cuba is beautiful and fascinating and fun and heartbreaking. The best part for me was the nature and the people.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

If you are not prepared for a country where people live in poverty, and goods and food are in short supply, this trip is not for you. There will be power outages, you will sit down in a restaurant and hear a list of things they can’t make on the menu, because some ingredients simply aren’t available. Cubans will do their absolute best to look after you, but there is a limit to what they have available, so you need to be understanding and flexible. Bring everything you need with you, and if you can, bring some extras to give to people you meet along the way. Something simple like a packet of paracetamol or spare clothes could be hugely valuable to a new local friend. If you are flexible, willing to deal with a bit of discomfort and not too picky you will have the time of your life!

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Anyone visiting Cuba will help local people because your visit puts money into the economy. The visitor numbers have dropped significantly in recent years and a lot of people rely on tourism to survive. We stayed in the equivalent of B&Bs so certainly those local families were benefitting more than if we had stayed in bigger hotels. In terms of environment, the group leader certainly did his best to make sure we didn’t need too many plastic bottles, and we visited some lovely environmental projects including an organic farm and a botanical garden.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

It was fabulous! Our guide Ale, went above and beyond to make sure we had a fantastic visit, shared so much knowledge with us and we had a lot of fun along the way.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Spending Christmas Day in Trinidad hiking to the waterfalls and in the morning and then spending the afternoon on the beach

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Even if you think you won’t be on your period, take sanitary pads / tampons etc as per the guide, there’s limited supply of these and the unexpected can happen. Also if in need of anything try speak to your accommodation hosts who are generally willing to help you out in any way if they can.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Benefitting local people is not straightforward in Cuba. In terms of environmental impact I think more can be done to reduce food waste where local breakfasts / other meals don’t serve more than will be consumed by a group - a tricky balance.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

It was a great trip. There are periods of a lot of bus travel - but make the most of those by chatting to the tour leader about what you’d like to know about the country.

Swimming in the Carribean (Bay of Pigs) and walking and swimming in El Parque Cubano. Walking around Trinidad and Havana.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Get small change when changing money at the airport, rather than large bank notes. Get clear understanding of the way and where wifi works. Don't overload your suitcase with warm clothes.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes, supported some local people eg. homestay hosts and taxi drivers. Also private restaurant owners and musicians. Saw very little conservation or environmental impact.
