Kenya holidays & safaris
Kenya has been in the tourism game longer than virtually any other African country –and it shows. Other nations may boast higher mountains, bigger game reserves and more exclusive lodges – but Kenya’s decades of experience means it still tops many travellers’ lists, with superb service, tried and tested itineraries, and the understanding that its people are as important as its wildlife in creating the perfect Kenya holidays.

Our last game drive at Buffalo Springs National Reserves in Samburu when we got to see a group of elephants (about 30!) feeding on green pasture/shrubs with no other cars nearby during dusk time. It was magical!
Tips?
Know beforehand that you will be going on "comfort" visits at curio shops where you will be expected to haggle your prices for souvenirs. Also, go during low season times when there are less tourists.

Absolutely outstanding....I have never felt a holiday I have been on before has benefitted the local people anything like as much as this one. The Mara Naboisho Conservancy is doing amazing things for the local community, giving them a sustainable income and employment, conserving the wildlife and environment and meeting the needs of tourists - an extraordinary balance appears to have been found. Absolutely outstanding...Game drives with numerous encounters with lions, leopards, hyenas, elephant and buffalo. A morning walking safari with Maasai men through an area where we had watched 15 lions hunting the evening before was a particular highlight. (more)Richard Webb
Memorable parts?
Watching a cheetah stalk impala.
Tips?
The internal Kenya flights allowed us 23 kg of luggage and did not weigh the hand baggage.
Local benefits?
Yes but we were very disturbed to find large herds of cattle grazing in the masai Mara national park, where no cattle are supposed to to be.

Memorable parts?
The whole experience was great. We had some amazing wildlife sightings, including a pride of 16 lions including 8 cubs and 2 males, a herd of 34 elephants, and a trek with a black rhino ranger where we saw 2 black rhinos. But the over riding memory will be of the Namibian people and how happy and friendly and welcoming they are. We never felt wary or unsafe on any part of our trip.

Biking itself and meeting the locals on the way was fascinating enough, but camping on Masai grounds and talk to the villagers was a bonus on top. I definitely enjoyed the variety of biking tracks and terrains and the game drives were fantastic.
Tips?
Well, be in good condition, have a bit of biking practise beforehand and go for some uphills. Otherwise you will struggle a bit... Bring a camera with a decent zoom. If you want luxury this is not for you! ... (more)Roman Holderbach

The wildlife was the highlight; so varied, so close, so great to see them in the natural environments. Our guides were so knowledgeable and patient, waiting
while we just observed and answering so many questions.
Tips?
We went in mid-September, a great time to go because it was less busy with other people but still plenty of wildlife. Don't spend too much time looking
through a camera lens, be sure to appreciate it all live and in real time. We recommend ... (more)Dawn Hein

I got to do all that I wanted to do for this trip and more. Having a local's expertise during the planning stages of the trip made the difference because they know the lay of the land and what works and doesn't which would help you in creating the prefect itinerary.
Tips?
Just do it, you won't regret it. Bring your sense of adventure and lots of patience. The animals after all don't know you have a schedule to follow.

Safari wildlife viewing, Masai village tour, Food good despite having to set up from scratch a lot of the time
Tips?
It is basic and even though we went when it was still in the dry season, we had three days of relentless heavy rain. If that’s your thing great, but camping and sitting out round the fire is somewhat spoilt.
Local benefits?
Yes it definitely does

I can't choose one particular moment that was more exciting than another. It was all so wonderful. The game drive with Tabula and Jacob left us in awe. They knew where to go to find the migrating hordes of zebras, wildebeests, giraffes and elephants. The lion and hyena spottings were breathtaking as well. But staying in James' family compound in Ewangan was also quite a thrill. We loved our walking safari with Jacob, during which he told us so many fascinating things ... (more)Melissa Spurr

We visited Kenya to see elephants and we saw many in parks and the two conservancies we stayed in. We will always remember the two young elephants playing together in ponds and puddles, clearly having enormous fun spraying each other with yet more water and trumpeting as they did so. The roads were pretty exciting too in this very wet year!
