1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
Khiva. A wonderful, atmospheric ancient city that takes you back in time.2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
Make sure you take US dollars in cash to change at official currency exchange rates in the hotels. ATM's are everywhere now but can cost more with their charges added.3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Not really. Not much available free time to spend money in the local markets or shops. Restaurants benefited when dinners were not included in the tour but had little overall impact on local businesses. Small plastic bottles of drinking water were in a cooler on the coaches, but when I mentioned to the guide at the start of the tour that as most of us had our own water bottles it would save on plastic if a large container of water was provided so that we could top up from that, it was met with no enthusiasm or change from what had obviously been provided on all previous tours. Much more education is needed in the country regarding these topics.4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
Our guide, Ildar, was great. A walking Wikipedia who gave info. overload for many of us though. Did his best to make things go smoothly despite some readjustments throughout the tour. I would have preferred another day in Khiva and cut out the trip to the ski resort and some of the too many mosques and madrassahs. Too much time spent on lunches that were much too heavy for all of us after good breakfast buffets. Lots of food wastage there. Cutting this down to a more snack based stop would give more free time that was lacking. Despite these gripes, a well organised tour that showed me the sights I wanted to see and more, with a good, friendly guide, comfortable accommodation and transportation. Personally, I feel that the tour could be trimmed by a day based on my above comments.Pilla Scott Moncrieff review 19 Oct 2023
1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
Overall everything exceeded our expectations in every way. We loved Khiva and Bukhara and enjoyed wandering at will in both cities. We were most impressed with the cleanliness of the cities and the efficiency of the trains. The new fast train from Bukhara to Samarkand was far better than LNER or even Eurostar! We so enjoyed the friendliness of the Uzbek people and felt totally safe at all times.2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
Travel in a very small group (we were 2 and it was perfect). Pack very little. Have plenty of space in your luggage for your purchases!3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Once we had arrived we travelled by car or train. We did not take internal flights.4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
Up there with the most interesting and stimulating - and generally the best holiday either of us has ever had. Uzbekistan is a wonderful country.Lynda O review 17 May 2023
