Travelling in armed convoy up the west coast of Madagascar. Two Klashnekoffs up front and two at the rear.
Tips?
This is not an African safari. Prepare and manage your expectations accordingly - remembering that Madagascar is one of the poorest countries in the world.

Learning about the diverse places in Madagascar…often a thrilling and lovely surprise. From the baobabs to the lemurs to the chameleons, the animal/plant life and trying to understand its evolutionary development was eye-opening! (more)Marianne Werner
There was just so much more to see and hear than we imagined Tsingy National Park: Such a unique and bizarre landscape. Chameleons and birds: Without the guides we doubt we would have seen so many but the number and variety was astonishing. Whale watching and snorkeling with the turtles and Angle Fish camping on the riverside and the meal prepared that night after the canoe trip. (more)Eric Gussin
The highlight was the interaction with the people and nature that surrounded us. Great expedition destination. (more)Angel Rodriguez

There were too many wonderful experiences to pick out just one as the most memorable or exciting! Some of the many highlights for me included: seeing so many different kinds of lemurs and chameleons; the extraordinary limestone Tsingy...... (more)Catherine Nursaw
Being virtually the only people on a mountain in Marojejy National Park, watching in awe the Silky Sifakas chilling out high up on a tree... Fantastic. (more)Stephanie Grant
The excellent guides who enabled us to see so much wildlife, beyond our expectations and beyond what most tourists will ever see.

Memorable parts?
Seeing the lemurs in the forest and watching them playing around like our children was fantastic, but most exciting was how different the culture and scenery was to ours in the UK.
Tips?
Relax and take all you see in. Get out and meet the people.
Local benefits?
Yes. We traveled with Exodus who use local services so employ and pay the local people. We also stayed in hotels and ate in restaurants run by local people.

All of it - but especially the whale watching and being up close to the all the different lemurs. We also loved being driven through the country with its varied and spectacular landscapes and seeing how the Malagasy people live.
Tips?
Travel light and be organised. Partake of every trip on offer. Take in the country on the drives. This is so much more than a trip to see lemurs.

It was all very memorable . I loved the very diverse landscapes - one minute you had the feeling you were in Africa and the next minute Peru - such is the mixture of people and scenery. (more)Sarah Morton

Memorable parts?
Conquering the Grand Tsingy
Tips?
Be prepared for the long travelling days and the risk of an upset stomach (take supplies of Imodium and rehydration sachets). Saying that, the rewards are an abundance of wildlife and amazing landscapes that are unique and a once in a lifetime experience.

The very first morning at Saint Luce, we were up pre-dawn and walked down to the estuary. There several pirogues took us across the lagoon to the mangrove waterways and then back again. The round trip was about 3 hours, initially mainly silent except for bird identification, the sunrise added to the atmosphere. Part of the mystery and beauty of Madagascar was revealed on that memorable morning.

I travelled with this operator on the Madagascan Discoverer. It was a brilliant trip. Full on not in bed after 06.30 any day for 15/17 days. Saw virtually everything on the "to do" list. A place you must visit. (more)Stephen Lindsay

There were so many highlights on our holiday, that it is difficult to identify the most memorable/exciting ones. However, a close encounter with an Indri lemur with her young baby was really special. On another occasion, some common brown lemurs shared our picnic lunch, which was entertaining! The rain forests were amazing for the diversity of flora and fauna and the Red Tsingy were quite incredible and so unusual. Visiting a bat cave was also quite an experience. ... (more)Diane Beavis

Without a doubt the most memorable bit was our stay on Tsarabanjina - it was absolutely paradise and the most wonderful end to a great few weeks. The
whole trip was both memorable and exciting, however, with so much variety in terms of activities and accommodation.
Tips?
Ask the Malagasy guides loads of questions and get them to take you to places off the beaten track. Going into smaller local restaurants were some of the best
parts of our trip!

Definitely our 3-day trekking! Not only we saw beautiful landscapes and met very friendly people, but we also developed a connection with our porters and guide as we shared more than just meals. We felt more as a little group and they told us they appreciated it as well. (more)Chiara Vecchi

Memorable parts?
Hearing Indri lemurs call out to each other in the forest, and then seeing them above our heads!
Tips?
Be relaxed - sometimes you will see things, sometimes not - the national parks are not zoos. Be prepared - sometime there will be no electricty, usually there willbe no wifi, no clothes washing facilities unless you do it yourself in the shower....Madagascar is a very poor developing country, you can't expect things like at home, but keepan open mind and enjoy ...
