Tibet holidays

Known as the ‘Roof of the World’, Tibet is home to towering mountains, stunning scenery and a warm and welcoming people. Bound by Buddhism, it has been occupied by China since 1949 and is a country besieged by change. Much of traditional Tibet – its territory, its architecture, and, crucially, its people – has been suppressed and subjugated, but backing tourism in traditional Tibet holidays & Tibet tours is a sure fire way to show your support for the nation.

Memorable parts? The late afternoon clear view of Mt Everest at Everest Base Camp was one of the highlights of this trip, though the stunning scenery along the road from Lhasa right through to Kathmandu has to be a close second. Tips? I'd recommend sitting back and enjoying the experience - everything is done for you. Bring small-denominational cash with you for China - no-one accepts credit cards and even 100RMB notes are too large for many places to accept for smaller ... (more)Michael Pick

I would strongly recommend taking the altitude medication (Dimox) and also doing some suitable preparation such as hill walking. Local benefits? Yes I feel ... (more)Clare Daly

Memorable parts? The visits to the Everest Base Camp and the Potala palace, and the journeys in Gangtey. Tips? To look for another travel agency and, definitively, avoid the holiday provider. Local benefits? Not at all. Overall rating? I have to separate my feelings of frustration related to my experience with the holiday provider (which I rate 2/10) and my feelings of satisfaction related to several of the places we visited (which I rate 8/10). I rate 8/10 and ... (more)Fernando Masaya
