1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
Our trip was fantastic. It’s hard to know where to start in describing it as we did so much. Firstly our guides were great. We had three, Luis in Mexico City, Edwin for the tour down to Merida then Mariano on the last day. It was really impressive how knowledgeable they all were on the history and culture of every place we went to. They took every care to look after us and make everything work for us. All the hotels were good except for one, in Puebla. It was over 40 degrees and there was no air con in the room. Sara likened the service to Fawlty Towers. The hotel in Mexico City was wonderful and all the others were fine, all in very good locations. The tour and places to see/visit worked very well. There were several long car journeys but we liked being able to see the land and how it changes, mountains, jungle, towns and villages. Our driver, Jorge, was brilliant in finding his way, negotiating the roads and the checkpoints. We loved the variety of places that we saw, not just monuments and churches although they were truly amazing and worth the journey on their own. On our free day in Mexico City we spent the whole day in the anthropology museum which has to be a must see. Frida Kahlo’s house and Trotsky’s also. In fact there is no point in me going through all the other places we visited because they were all worth the journey, all very well chosen, wouldn’t have wanted to miss any. A few highlights - Teotihuacán; the walk in the volcanoes; Oaxaca, the restaurant meal and the alebrijes visit; Hierve al Agua; San Cristobal and Chamula (the most extraordinary experience of all), could have spent more time there; Palenque and Uxmal; the cenotes; the Maya museum in Merida which we saw on our free day.2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
Read up about Mexican history through to the present day, its history has shaped the country in every way. Be prepared for the heat, learn Spanish.3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Our spending must have helped the economy to an extent. Travelling by car did not help the environment but there is no other way to travel.4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
Brilliant, would love to do it all again.Holiday Reviews
