1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
This review is about our 5 night stay at the count's estate at Zalanpatak in Romania - I've reviewed the Transylvanian trek separately. The whole stay was excellent but the very best day was the horse and cart ride with barbecue. We also loved the remote rural position, the peace, the local produce (especially honey, apricot jam and raw milk), and the company of the other guests, who we got on with very well.2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
Bring warm clothes because you eat in an outdoor shelter at breakfast and in the evening unless the weather is particularly cold! Also the bed looked lovely but wasn't very comfortable - the bottom sheet wasn't big enough to tuck in properly and kept on coming adrift in the night.3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Yes, because it created local employment and a market for local produce, and all our excursions were by foot or horse and cart. Also the estate is managed on strong conservation principles (and is beautiful).4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
Would highly recommend to anyone who doesn't like crowds and bright lights! All the organisation worked well and the food was good.Paul Kearney review 9 Oct 2015
1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
The most knowledgeable guide I have ever had the privilege to meet, the stunning natural beauty, and the complete detachment from my day to day city life.2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
Do your research and make it clear in advance if there are any specific things you would like to see. It's not a 5 star hotel, but a quirky, charming and hospitable place. If you have any specific expectations with food or accommodation discuss it with the staff prior to booking.3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
I felt that the guest houses/estates excell in sympathetically bringing visitors to the area, and environmental/cultural education and conservation are a priority.4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
Excellent, and exactly what I was hoping for & I hope to return.Holiday Reviews
