2 Reviews of Iran holiday
4.5 out of 5 stars

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
Seeing and being introduced to the wonderful Islamic architecture, tiling, mosaics, and painted interiors with excellent guides.
2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
If possible, have some time out in the countryside between the cities to avoid 'cultural indigestion'. WE had three days in the Nurata Mountains experiencing local life and doing some hiking. Try to have a free day in each city to wander round at leisure, re-visit some of the sights and enjoy the local people.
3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
This trip benefited local people by providing employment for guides, income for the Nurata village guesthouses, and the sale of craft products.
4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
The holiday was very interesting and enjoyable. It was our first visit to Central Asia and as well as the beautiful architecture it gave us a good insight into the
development of the country and its strategic position in Central Asia.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
The homestay was a real highlight. We were also invited to Asura events in Yazd, where we were made very welcome and got to experience the local events.
2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
Lots of people will look at you as if you are mad when you tell them that you are going on holiday to Iran and suggests that it is very dangerous. Ignore them. I have never been to a place where people are so pleased to meet tourists, particularly British ones.
3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
I think that this trip benefits local people by using local businesses, particularly the home stay and the local restaurants. We also used local guides in places and visited villages where the visit would also have supported the local economy.
4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
We really enjoyed this trip. The history is fascinating, the architecture is beautiful, and the people genuinely welcoming and friendly. The only point to be prepared for is that the food, whilst reasonably tasty, isn't varied and you tend to get the same things everywhere. That is not a criticism of the trip, but is just the nature of the sort of food served in restaurants in Iran.
Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.
Planet
By keeping the group size to a maximum of 12, we can also minimise the human impact on the fragile sites and ecosystems we visit. We attempt to reduce plastic bottle use wherever possible by promoting use of reusable and filtered water bottles. Our partnership with Water-To-Go provides a discount on filtered water bottles to our clients. We do not provide water from plastic bottles to our clients in country but always ensure there is regular access to drinking water on our tours.
We are promoting the natural beauty and ancient heritage of Iran through visiting the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Golestan Palace and Persepolis. UNESCO Sites are chosen by the UNESCO committee and must "bear a unique or at least exceptional testimony to a cultural tradition or to civilisation", "an important interchange of human values" or be outstanding examples of major stages of Earth's history or ecological and biological processes in evolution. Visiting such sites helps sustain the traditions and natural ecosystems of Iran through tourism.
Throughout most of the trip we will be travelling in minibuses. Travelling as a group in a small bus contributes less pollution than a multitude of vehicles. We will also be exploring many areas on foot, to not only soak up the amazing sights at a slower pace, but to reduce our environmental impact and footprint along our journey. Slower travel also allows for more chances to interact with people from another culture.

On each Group tour we use local ground handlers. This means that all operational costs go directly into the local economy and help improve employment opportunities in remote regions. Such support can also be seen in our incorporation of homestays, locally owned hotels, family run restaurants and the services of local guides and drivers into our itineraries, which ensures that the money you spend with us goes directly into the local economy and local community. On Day 6 we will stay in a family-run guesthouse in Faraghe for a unique glimpse into the traditions and customs of local life. The homestay/guesthouse market helps them to provide good, clean and interesting accommodation which in turn allows them to educate their children, improve their standard of living and look after their ill. The wonderful thing about this kind of interactive tourism is that everyone gains – the families financially and us with the wonderful welcome and experience they give us. Wherever possible we stay in locally owned accommodation, eat in locally owned establishments and purchase supplies from the local nomads.
