Description of Jasper to Banff cycling tour in Canada
This Jasper to Banff cycling tour gets you into the saddle and breezing through towering landscapes of jagged peaks, turquoise lakes, thundering waterfalls, and wildflower meadows.
Things start as they meant to go on – with a ride to Maligne Lake and Maligne Canyon, the biggest lake and the deepest canyon in the Canadian Rockies. You’ll also ride past the vast Columbia Icefield, which flows into three oceans, and to the iconic lakes of the Canadian Rockies – including Lake Louise as a grand finale.
This Jasper to Banff cycling tour is designed by our Canada cycling experts. They have 40 years’ experience of exploring the Rockies under their belts and are passionate about hiring local mountain guides who know the roads better than the back of their paniers. You’ll see the famous lakes and peaks, sure – but the guides will also lead you down secluded roads to peaceful viewpoints where you’re more likely to spot the larger-than-life wildlife too. This is bear and elk country, after all.
This bike ride from Jasper to Banff is geared towards intermediate and experienced cyclists. However, there’s still a support vehicle on hand for any road-sore riders who fancy a break. Everything is arranged for you too, from characterful lodge accommodation to some spectacularly scenic picnics cooked up al fresco – the perfect fuel for the next ride.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
The scenery and the guides
2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
Check before booking a single supplement as I did & was the only single lady on the tour so chances are I’d have been given a single room without extra charge!

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
Excellent, Sean and Michaela were great hosts, Sean couldn’t do enough for us.
Just little things like the luggage been in our rooms when we arrived.

The Canadian Rockies located along the Continental Divide is an integral part of North America's watershed. The icefield parkway is home to the Columbia Icefield, the Columbia Icefield is one of the few surviving remnants of the thick ice mass that once mantled most of Western Canada's mountains, it lies on a wide, elevated plateau, and it is the largest icefield in the Canadian Rockies and the most visible giving guests an awe-inspiring view and highlighting the unique environment we are riding through.
Nearly three-quarters of the park's highest peaks are located close to the icefield; ideally placed to catch much of the moisture that Pacific winds carry across the British Columbia interior. Most of this precipitation falls as snow; up to 7 meters a year! Your trip leaders will have extensive information regarding water consumption and how important this watershed is for us, the wildlife, and the ecosystem as a whole.
Wildlife is an integral part of our National Parks ecosystem, overtime restrictions have been created on their natural movement by infrastructure like roads and towns being built in their main travel corridor. The national park services have been working tirelessly over the years to mitigate the impacts.
At the beginning of your journey you will be made aware of how to safely interact with the wildlife and have a reduced impact on the environment. Simple rules such as maintaining a safe distance, not feeding them, and appropriately disposing of waste will be mentioned for your safety and theirs.
Throughout your trip, your guides will highlight the different ways in which the park services are helping minimize our impact on the wildlife and ecosystem. We as a group will also be following the guidelines of the Leave No Trace code of outdoor ethics. This initiative guarantees that we will be exploring these fragile areas with minimal disturbance and in full respect of others.
The team is looking forward to the many conversations, questions, and sharing information about the watershed and the unique environment with you while cycling and dining.
