Description of Jordan self drive holiday

This 10-day fly-drive trip offers the perfect opportunity for independent travellers to explore Jordan – whether travelling solo, as a couple or a family. Your rental car and hotels are booked for you in advance – but the actual journey you choose to take through this wonderful country is up to you. The package includes a suggested itinerary covering Jordan's most famous sights – though you can play with it how you wish. And for any questions while travelling, we are just a phone call away!

In the capital Amman, you could visit the historic Citadel and Roman Theatre before driving to the wonderfully-preserved old Roman city of Jerash. Other suggested sites include the St George Church at Madaba, Mount Nebo from where Moses glimpsed the Promised Land, and the imposing Crusader castle at Karak. Your itinerary also allows two days to explore the majestic rose-red ruins of Petra, the ancient desert capital that is Jordan's most celebrated sight.

A visit to the richly storied Wadi Rum - described by Lawrence of Arabia as a "vast, echoing and moon like landscape" includes the chance to enjoy a half day jeep tour of its dramatic sandstone landscape, before an overnight stay with dinner at a Bedouin camp.

Following some chill out time by the Red Sea at Aqaba, cross the Wadi Araba desert to the Dead Sea - the lowest point on the earth’s surface where you can drift in its famous salty waters and look back at a truly memorable road trip.

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

As much as possible we use locally owned hotels. We strive to book you hotels around Jordan that are located close to the sites & restaurants and so minimise the needed transfers. However, for the Fly & Drive program, a big part of responsible travelling lies with the traveller. You will have the freedom to make your own plans. We do provide you with a suggestive program in which we recommend locally owned restaurants. It's a win win for everyone. You support the local community and in return you get to try real local traditional food that Jordanians eat on a daily basis. It will add more uniqueness to your Middle Eastern experience.

Jordan is one of the countries with little water resources. Therefore we ask our travelers to not take long showers and not to leave the tap water running unnecessarily. We encourage you to try to limit your water use.

At our office we try to limit the use of paper as much as we can by making reservations via email instead of via fax.

People

Throughout Jordan you will be staying in locally owned hotels as much as this is possible. By doing so you support the local businesses, they will be able to employ more people and so more families will be supported. It is a great way of travelling responsible. You support the local community just by chosing their hotels. Locally owned does not mean hotels without any luxury. There are plenty of 3 star, 4 star and even a few 5 star hotels in Jordan that have local owners. We let you chose, they are all responsible choices.

We recommend our clients to buy their souvenirs from locally owned shops. During summer time in Amman, on each Friday souk Jara takes place selling local crafts. And during winter time there is Souk by the Sea in Aqaba. Both sell local handicrafts, it is a must visit when coming to Jordan. And by buying local crafts you support local artist and their families.
