Description of Kenya family holiday
Kenya is one of the most exciting destinations in Africa, a treasure trove of incredible wildlife, spectacular scenery and fabulous beaches. The children will adore everything about a safari, whether it is keeping their eyes peeled for 'the big five', eating dinner around a camp fire under a blanket of stars or taking a walking safari through a national park in search of some of Africa's less dangerous animals.
Key to a successful family holiday in Kenya is the accommodation and this holiday uses a number of different family friendly camps which have been hand picked for their ambience and facilities. Many are in stunning locations, with great views over the surrounding landscape and a comfortable bed at the end of the night in a deluxe safari tent or chalet. Most have swimming pools so that you can relax during the heat of the day, recharging the batteries before another game drive in search of lion, zebra, elephant, rhino and more.
Kenya also has some wonderful beaches with a wide variety of resorts ranging from large hotels with watersports, multiple pools and kids clubs to smaller and more informal boutique hotels with less facilities but a more personalised service. We will recommend a place that will suit your particular family.

Accessibility
Overview:
We believe that travel is for everyone. This is a really core principle for us and we passionately believe that where there’s a will there’s a way. We take all ages and all levels of fitness and we do everything possible to ensure that our tours are accessible for everyone, irrespective of physical ability or cognitive conditions. In our experience, there is almost always a way of making a tour suitable for everyone. It’s conceivable that there may be some situations that we can’t accommodate but we haven’t come across them yet!
Limited mobility:
Everything that we do is tailor made so if we have guests with limited mobility, for example, we will tailor the programme to take this into account, and will suggest hotels which will suit. Just let us know what your requirements are and we can talk you through the options
Wheelchair:
In most of our destinations, it is not possible to arrange a special vehicle adapted for wheelchairs, but we are able to arrange a large vehicle which will have ample storage for a wheelchair. Some hotels have wheelchair access; these may be few and far between but we can suggest where these might be possible. Where there is no wheel chair access, but not too many steps, hotel staff are always happy to help with lifting the wheel chair.
Blind/ limited vision:
All of our customers will be travelling as part of a family group therefore we would expect that one of the family would be able to provide necessary assistance to a traveller with limited vision. Information in braille is almost never available but local support can be provided, for example ensuring that porters are available to carry luggage in airports / train stations / hotels so that the travel partner is free to assist the person with limited vision.
Deaf/limited hearing:
As stated above, all of our customers will be travelling as part of a family group therefore we would expect that one of the family would be able to provide necessary assistance to a traveller with limited hearing.
Cognitive conditions:
We have experience in providing appropriate spaces for all travellers, whether this means hotels with access to outdoor space, ground floor rooms, quiet rooms and so on. As all of our customers will be travelling as part of a family group therefore we would expect that one of the family would be also be on hand to provide necessary one on one assistance to a traveller with cognitive conditions as required.
About this Free from food:
If guests have serious dietary issues (or allergies) we will arrange translations into the relevant local language(s) to explain these, and will brief guides to ensure that appropriate food is served.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
Watching a cheetah stalk impala.
2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
The internal Kenya flights allowed us 23 kg of luggage and did not weigh the hand baggage.
3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Yes but we were very disturbed to find large herds of cattle grazing in the masai Mara national park, where no cattle are supposed to to be.

Planet
A family holiday in Kenya will usually include a number of different game drives whilst on safari in various different national parks. All of our holidays are organised in conjunction with a local (Kenyan owned) tour operator which shares our committment to Responsible Travel. This is reflected in the nature of the guides who accompany our game drives as they take particular care to ensure that the safaris are conducted in a responsible manner. This includes providing advice to travellers about how to behave whilst on safari (for example not wearing bright colours) and also an explanation of the ecosystem in Kenya and the way that the different animals live. We find that children become fascinated in the environment and the guides enjoy teaching them about its preservation and the difficulties being faced, for example by poaching. We feel that this educational element is a core part of our trips.Our UK office is run as environmentally as possible. The majority of our staff either walk or cycle to work and we operate a primarily paper free environment. We do not produce brochures (which often leads to a lot of waste) but market our tours exclusively on the internet.
People
There has unfortunately been a degree of exploitation of indigenous peoples in Africa from tourism, particularly some of the Masai people living around the Masai Mara. Villages have turned in to little more than glorified photo opportunities for camera wielding tourists. That said, we do think that introducing travellers to the Masai way of life is an important aspect of any trip to Kenya and it is something that families particularly enjoy. We have therefore taken steps to try to arrange visits to as authentic and genuine a village as possible, without the degree of exploitation seen in some places.Many of our families also enjoy visiting a local school so we try to include this where possible. Children always really enjoy this and parents are very pleased to offer their children a detailed insight into a rather different way of life!
The lodges that we use in Kenya are small and usually family owned. They generally employ a large percentage of staff from the local community.
