Responsible Travel
Planet
On this trip you will explore fragile environments and ecosystems such as on the Kinabatangan River and in the Danum Valley. Local guides will brief you on the most responsible way to travel through the landscape.Transport via boats and on foot (both low-carbon ways to go) are our travel modes of choice for a significant part of the trip, helping to minimise disruption to the land and damage to the environment.
Accommodation is in locally run lodges which take their eco credentials seriously and operate with a sustainable mindset. The Abai Jungle Lodge for example is only accessible from the river and consists of wooden chalets connected by wooden walkways which blend in with the surrounding forest and minimise disturbance to wildlife.
People
On this trip you will stay in locally owned and run lodges that offer jobs and career development opportunities to remote communities.Borneo's fragile ecosystem is under threat from such things as palm oil plantations, deforestation and mass tourism. Each aspect of your tour aims to educate on the various issues and explain some of the projects in place to help manage these growing concerns. Local experts and nature guides are key to this and will join you throughout your trip.
We continue to support local communities such as Abai Village (tree planting), Rainforest Discovery Centre and wildlife projects such as the Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary. We have also introduced a colourful welcome book for children which helps to raise awareness about wildlife displacement and deforestation.
Lastly you will be provided with an extensive list of local restaurants, projects and craft shops which you will have the opportunity to enjoy at your own leisure.
