Lapland holiday, husky safari & log cottage
Description of Lapland holiday, husky safari & log cottage
This short Finnish Lapland holiday takes you into another world, staying in a wilderness cabin on the southern shores of Lake Inari, far up in the North of Finland. With trips throughout the winter, you will have a chance to immerse yourself in this region which is famously good for seeing the Northern Lights, otherwise known as the Aurora Borealis. If conditions are good, you can be lucky to see the Lights on several nights of this trip as the skies up here are so pollution free your chances are high.
As this area is also steeped in Sami tradition, we are able to partake in some exciting outdoor activities which are also very much tied in with this heritage, such as husky sledding, visiting a reindeer farm, snowshoeing and also cross country skiing across the lake and through snow blanketed forests. There will be two such excursions definitely included in this winter holiday package.
We will also visit the Siida Sámi Museum in Inari, as well as the Sámi parliament which are both wonderful ways to learn about the local culture, language and traditions. But for most visitors, the highlight of this trip is the night-time husky safari, pulled by 4-5 husky dogs through the clear and dark blue light of this wilderness region, in some of the most peaceful surroundings you could possibly imagine. You will get to care for your team overnight and also learn mushing skills, before tucking up in a wilderness cabin.
Note: Although this is a small group tour, we can also create a tailor made version for you. Please just ask for details.

Amazing!!! I don’t know too many Americans who travel to Finland, especially in the winter. But I can’t recommend this trip and the operator enough. Read full reviewReviewed on 08 Apr 2019 by Helen Tolley
The most exciting part of our holiday was the overnight Husky Dog safari into the Wilderness, an experience not to be missed! The most memorable was seeing the Northern lights and Snow-shoeing in the forests Read full reviewReviewed on 15 Apr 2018 by Srikanth Murthi

The most memorable was all the snow and ice activities - husky sledding, ice fishing, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobile driving - were great. So different from what you can do in London! Would have been even better if the Northern lights had appeared while we were there but that's not under anyone's control. Read full reviewReviewed on 11 Jan 2018 by Michelle Adonis
The husky tour, the tipi warm up snack times & quite simply, the amount of snow everywhere! Read full reviewReviewed on 07 Jan 2018 by Marian Martinez

Well planned, tailored made and little details were well looked into....The husky ride in Inari is simply fantastic! Read full reviewReviewed on 23 Feb 2016 by Lara Pletcher
It was all brilliant, but I would say the most memorable bit was the husky safari, it was so peaceful once the dogs got started. The rest of the trip was amazing too from the hotel Vuokkati, to cross country skiing, ice skating, visiting the spa at Katinkulta and Angry Birds park and going out on cross country ski trails and tobagonning from the hotel. Brilliant! Read full reviewResponsible Travel

Husky safari is an ecological way to move in the wilderness without motor. By travelling this way our guests will get deep into wilderness they could not reach by car and they can really connect with nature and experience how it feels to be dependent on a team of huskies.Season and weather make each safari different. A local professional guide will tell the participants about the eight seasons, the Arctic nature and its fauna on the way. Far out the wilderness it might also be possible to see some of the Arctic animals, for example reindeers and pfarmigans. He/she will also make sure the guests arrive safely back from the safari. During the safari the dogs are taken well care for by the participants themselves.
After the husky tour the guests will stay in a traditional log cabin in a ski village, where everything is in a walking distance and no extra transportation is needed. We recommend our customers to try cross country skiing and snowshoeing in order to get in the Urho Kekkonen National Park, which is located very close to the ski village.

We are keen to support the local community and ensure that they feel the benefits of tourism. The Husky farm for example is a local company in northernmost Lapland in Ivalo. Our guests will get closer to the nature and will get to discover how the original population has been able to survive in extreme conditions above the Arctic circle. The log cabin is owned by a private Finnish company and all the services such as cleaning and maintenance are provided by local companies. There are grocery stores, restaurants and activity providers easily accessible. We also recommend that our customers take part in the trips from the weekly program which are run by local operators.
The original Sámi culture is fascinating and we recommend that our guests make a tour to Inari, where Sajos, the Sámi parliament and Siida, the Sámi museum are located. There are only about 70 000 Sámi people left living in the northern parts of Finland, Sweden, Norway and Russia. As other indigenous people, the Sámi have strived to preserve and maintain their culture. The Sámi museum offers a great way to understand more about the culture and nature of Lapland.
