Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

The Maldives is a fragile environment. It is more fragile and more in danger than most other places on earth. The country’s existence relies on healthy coral reefs and a moderation of the sea level rise.

The Maldives struggles to eliminate all the rubbish produced by over 1 million tourists per year and whilst educating locals in waste management is all part of a large project, as visitors to their home we encourage our guests to support in the following ways and help by leading by example. For this reason and for the obvious difficulty in eliminating several materials, we suggest to bring back the empty containers of shampoo, bath foam, conditioner, cream and photograph film. We also advise to bring cotton shopping bags to eliminate the need for plastic bags when shopping and to pack a reusable water bottle to avoid the purchase of small plastic water bottles.

Our guests can become actively involved in conservation programs and learn how they too can be responsible during their stay in the Maldives.

All our guests participating in ocean based activities including swimming and snorkelling are briefed using the Green Fins Guidelines on how to be responsible in the water.

Through time spent with partner experts and NGOs we have educated our guide team in order that they can provide guest presentations on topics such as Coral Reef Preservation, waste management in the Maldives, Parley Plastic Recycling and the protection of seagrass

We regularly support clean up events, tree planting and educational events for the community. In 2018 we launched #STRAWWARMV to encourage our partners to ditch the straw which was very successful and we collect all out plastic waste on tours for recycling.

People

We offer local people good working conditions, a fair wage, benefits and empower them with training and development opportunities. With the exception of our Co-Founder, who has resided in the Maldives full time for over 10 years, all our team are Maldivians who have a passion to share their enthusiasm and knowledge of their country. Every member of the team is involved with our local island package development, planning and organisation and their input has allowed us to develop a very unique product.

Our tours are designed so that guests not only experience the natural beauty and participate in activities commonly associated with the Maldives but that they have the opportunity to learn about it’s people and culture first hand.

We work to create good relationships between tourists and the local community. We respect local customs and culture. We want our guests to learn about local customs and cultural practices whilst respecting local dress and cultural requirements.

As we have grown we have looked for opportunities where we can support local initiatives and impact local communities. We seek out ways to open up channels to allow Maldives based organisations, NGOs, marine-life charities the opportunity to interact with guests and in so doing increase their exposure to a wider audience.
