1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

The whole trip was amazing - it was quite possibly my best holiday ever and I've travelled a bit! The country was interesting, the local Guides informative, the accommodation both comfortable and beautiful - really loved the feature stay in the Riad in Fez, our guide was awesome - friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. And such a lovely guy. The group I was lucky enough to travel with were funny, interesting and great company - I felt like I had found 'my people'. I almost don't want to book another trip as I can't imagine that any trip would ever be better than this one!! (But I will.....:))

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Go for it! No need to take your own currency - plenty of availability in country. Keeping shoulders covered was great advice- it meant I was comfortable and fitted in appropriately.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

I certainly felt it benefited local people - the tour operator staff (Guide and driver), the local Guides, the homes we visited and then the custom that we brought to local Riads and shops. The idea of the tour operator providing water for us to top up our small bottles with was great - significant reduction in plastic. Not sure we supported conservation on this trip and I was also a bit concerned from an animal welfare perspective at the snakes and monkeys that were on display in Marrakech.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Completely and utterly awesome.

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

We provide travellers with reusable fabric tote bags. The bags are made by women in the south west of Morocco, who are provided with learning materials and training in sewing and embroidery. Pollution was highlighted as an important issue in Morocco during the 2016 UN Climate Change Conference. Following the conference, the government banned the use of plastic bags in supermarkets and has supported initiatives from all industries to reduce waste.

All travel on this trip through Morocco, which is completed by private vehicle, includes a large container of drinking water. Travellers are encouraged to bring their own reusable water bottle so that they can refill it from this container. More and more hotels are also providing water for guests to refill their own bottles. This reduces the number of single-use plastic water bottles disposed of by our travellers.

People

Our trips maximize the opportunity for travellers to engage meaningfully with local culture and communities. Many experiences on our trips also support traditional cultural practices – whether artisanal, culinary or otherwise. In turn, this helps to sustain and preserve these traditional practices so that future generations may continue to learn, enjoy and benefit from them. This trip includes two meals with local families in Fes and Khenifra, providing opportunities for sharing recipes and stories, while directly supporting two local families. During our tours of the medinas in Rabat, Meknes, Fes and Marrakech we choose to visit local artisans who produce local crafts using traditional methods.

In 2017 we noticed that while many of our office staff were women, we had a much lower number of women leading our trips. Our local teams found that women faced many difficulties becoming tour leaders in places like Morocco due to public perception, family concerns and the inability to obtain required licensing because of government restrictions. Our Moroccan operations team successfully lobbied the local government to include women in the government-regulated tour guide licensing program. From having no women leading trips in Morocco two years ago, we now have 15% female leaders with plans for more to join our team soon.
