Nangma and Thallay La trek in Pakistan
Description of Nangma and Thallay La trek in Pakistan
This magnificent Pakistan trekking tour culminates in the famous Thallay La route between Khaplu and Shigar, regarded as one of the most beguiling in the Baltistan region. Before that, spend a few days exploring the spectacular Nangma Valley, surrounded by lush green meadows and imposing rocky peaks, enjoying thrilling daily hikes and unforgettable sunsets.
With high altitudes to adapt to, daily distances up to around 17 kilometres, and elevation gains up to 450m, you will want to be an experienced, fit walker, but the pace is always relaxed – you’re here to absorb this magnificent setting, as well as to learn a little about ways of life in such a remote area. Travelling throughout with a local guide, your group will have a conduit for communication in the tiny villages you pass through along the way. Friendly greetings, even the occasional invitation for tea, meet walking groups here.
You’ll walk through the flowery pastures of the Thallay Valley, following a trail along glacial streams dotted with shepherd huts, with people working in the fields or tending to their livestock all around. Guides share their knowledge around the region’s botany, wildlife and history as you go.
In the valleys you’ll be accommodated in comfortable, full-service campsites where every care is taken to leave these landscapes pristine for the next walker. Though August departures are the norm, even in summer you’ll need warm fleeces for nights at over 4,000m. Extra days are factored into the itinerary to allow for bad weather, but even moody skies can’t hide the majesty of these views.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
The locals. I am a big fan of nature, but the locals made me feel very welcomed.
They made my travel extra memorable.
2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
I had a little hard time trekking because of the high altitude. It was somewhat challenging. But it was worth it. Beautiful surroundings and animals pushed me
through, as did the guide and porters. I felt so much stronger and more powerful when I finished. I'd try it again. The mountains are calling me.
3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
I might have made a small contribution to the local community and conservation.
I am not sure that I reduced the environmental impact.
4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
Five star

We encourage our clients to buy local products and eat in local (family-owned) restaurants. We support the creation of micro and small enterprises.Simply “being out” awakens a part of many of us that’s gone dormant from living around artificial lights, the noise of civilization, the demands of daily life, and a lack of wide-open spaces.
