Description of Oman & Dubai holiday, Six Senses Zighy Bay

This 11 day Oman and Dubai holiday includes luxurious stays at the Park Hyatt in Dubai and Six Senses Zighy Bay in Oman.

Just next to Dubai Creek, it golf club and the marina, the Park Hyatt is a quiet haven in this busy city. Designed in contemporary Arabic style, it’s a low rise building – unusual in Dubai – with five floors surrounded by gardens and courtyards. There’s an excellent spa here, a beautiful pool and lots of dining options here serving Thai, French and Arabic food. Rooms are spacious, with balconies or patios, in eight buildings dotted around the resort.

There are plenty of excursions to enjoy from the hotel. Take an off road adventure into the desert, see traditional villages, the ancient fossil rock and the fort at 16th-century Hatta Heritage Village. Take a cruise through Dubai on a traditional dhow, too, admiring this prosperous city from the water.

After four days in Dubai, you’ll travel to Oman to stay at Six Senses Zighy Bay. This is a remote resort, beautifully designed using traditional techniques and materials – natural stone, warm wood – sitting within a bay backed by mountains. You reach the hotel by speedboat or 4x4, unless you’re feeling very James Bond, in which case you can paraglide down from the mountains! Relaxing is easy once here – there is even a private butler service. This is a serene place, with a wonderful spa that uses Omani natural ingredients, and there’s also the chance to hike, cycle or climb in the mountains, snorkel or take a cookery course.

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

The Park Hyatt Dubai has a resident 'Green Team' who are self nominated staff members who have a open book to go and investigate anything they want. They're looking for new and unique areas where they can make differences that are not just going to be about benefitting the hotel, but finding unique angles that are relevant to the region.
Initiatives have included taking part in clean-up campaigns at Dubai Creek and teaming up with the Emirates Wildlife Society to produce a booklet that detail all the birds that live on the Creek.
They are also looking into the development of an economy mode that can be applied to each of the four wings of the hotel, a composting programme and a Treat Sewage Effluent plant used to power cooling towers and for external irrigation.
The Park Hyatt has also been a previous winner at the Dubai Green Tourism Awards.

Six Senses Zighy Bay was built with a huge emphasis placed on environmental and social responsibility. They work by the four principles of refuse, reduce, reuse and recycle. This includes reducing emissions through the implementation of energy-efficient devices and reducing consumption of fresh water by generally raising awareness amongst hosts and guests. Products are sourced from environmentally and socially responsible suppliers and preference is given, wherever possible, to local, organic and fair trade suppliers. A percentage of the monthly revenue goes back into the local community.

Examples of this include:
- to ensure that waste and garbage are handled properly and hygienically.
- deciding to contribute to Installing a Modern Irrigation Networks System. Based upon the believe on the importantance of the efficient use of water resources, scarce resources in this arid region, and at the same time, expanding the green spot to increase the CO2 absorption from the atmosphere.

People

Also at Six Senses Zighy Bay they believe in contributing to the wellbeing of the local community and giving back.
There are several social projects to develop relations with the residents of the area that surround the resort. Some of these projects are in the form of financial aid and some of them are a programme for education or recreation.

One of these examples is a social project where the hotel helps act as a support to the Oman Association for Disabled, an association operated by volunteers. The main objectives of establishing the association is to raise awareness in Oman around issues involving the disabled, and their needs and requirements in the Sultanate. OAD is mainly supported by the private sector with some support from government, but is focussed more on the physical disabled and the deaf.

Another initiative involves raising money towards building an outdoor sports centre for the local Dibba Girls School by offering guests the opportunity to purchase special key rings.
Due to the extreme heat of the summer months the girls are only able to play sports outside during the winter. By building a covered centre in their school grounds they will be able to play handball & Basketball year round and the hope is that it will also contribute to their wellbeing and happiness.

In addition, the hotel has donated about 500 kg of old linen, uniforms, table covers and various different types of textiles to Sharjah Charity International (Dibba Branch)
