Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

We spend five nights wild camping in predesignated spots on this trip in order to get closer to the great outdoors and wild nature of Oman as well as for the benefit of these ideal locations for hiking. At these camps there is no electricity, light pollution or sound pollution and all waste is taken away and recycled so that we leave no trace. On the other four nights we sleep in locally owned accommodation. This not only provides direct employment within the hotel, but also has the effect of percolating money beyond to small businesses that supply the hotel and in this way money is spread throughout the region we visit.

As a company we aim to encourage interaction with local communities while showing respect for local culture, beliefs and traditions, as well as the importance of respecting the natural surroundings and not leaving a trace, in order to protect places for generations to come. This helps break down cultural barriers and fosters a spirit of mutual respect and understanding. Our Omani national Tour Leaders are trained by us in the importance of responsible tourism with guidance given on how they can make a difference.

People

We select and train local Omani Nationals to lead our trips, sharing our tourism expertise, thus investing in the skills and development of local Omani people in tourism. As we are wild camping and accessing remote areas that necessitate 4WD vehicles we employ a lot of crew to run these trips, from trekking guides to drivers, from staff to make and break camp sites to the all-important cooks that feed us.

As well as time spent in Nizwa the cultural capital of Oman, we encourage interaction, through the expert local Leader and trekking guides, with local people along the way from remote mountain villages to the Bedouin of the Wahiba Sands. This encourages learning and a better understanding of the culture, history and people of Oman with a more genuine contact and experience of the destination. In return the local people gain a cross cultural understanding of the guests and may benefit from any money that is spent locally for produce, suppliers or Omani handicrafts. Wherever possible we dine in local restaurants, source produce and trekking supplies locally and visit souks where quality local artefacts are sold.
