Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.
Planet
This is a "Leave No Trace," low-environmental impact trek through the wilderness. As an intermediary in the tourism industry, we are in the best position to promote new practices and behavior suitable for sustainable tourism issues. Some specific issues are described in more detail below:
CONTRIBUTION TO PROTECTED AREAS
There is a small entrance fee to Wadi Rum (covered in the Jordan Pass) that funds the protected wilderness area of Wadi Rum
This hike is done entirely on foot, day 1 through the end of the hike on day 5, which allows us to minimize our carbon footprint. There is one small jeep transfer on day 5 from the Bedouin village of Abassiya to Wadi Rum village, which is done by the local community. This very minimal vehicle usage enables this tour to have very low carbon emissions.
WASTE
During this trek, we aim to apply a strict waste policy. To continue to enjoy these wild landscapes and in order to meet the current challenge, we have established some measures on our other hiking trips, such as:
• using reusable water bottles instead plastic ones,
• buying food without additional packaging,
• replacing plastic cutlery by reusable cutlery
This is a new tour and a new supplier from the local community, so we look forward to setting a good environmental standard and continuous improvement.
People
By going on this amazing trek you are helping to support local hiking and camping providers in the remote and job-scarce region between Petra and Wadi Rum. This beautiful section of the Jordan Trail is currently very off-the-beaten tourist path. One goal of ours in creating and promoting this tour is to provide enough traffic to this section of the trail in able to create a sustainable job opportunity for local Bedouins in providing hiking and camping logistic services in this region. This is a newer tour and we are newly working with a local hiking and camping provider in the region. With increased traffic we look forward to working to invest in the success of the local provider and support in continuous improvement of their local services. Part of what we look forward to doing is providing business, investment, guidance, and feedback on the local providers services and environmental impact.By going on this trek you are helping provide a valuable financial opportunity in this remote section of southern Jordan!
