Self-guided cycling holiday in Switzerland
Description of Self-guided cycling holiday in Switzerland
Cheese and chocolate play a big part in this self-guided cycling holiday in Switzerland, and the biking’s pretty tasty, too. Pedal through famous vineyards and pretty villages, with peaks towering above and sparkling Alpine lakes below, then hop off the bike to visit medieval castles and Gothic cathedrals. Spend each night in great little towns, all boasting wonderful views and lots of places to enjoy a great dinner.
This tour travels from the French to the German speaking part of Switzerland. Begin in Geneva, a stylish, multicultural city, cycling past vineyards and the beautiful Lake Geneva (or Lac Léman) as you pedal to Lausanne. From here, head to Gruyères, home of the famous cheese of the same name. Refuel here with a slice or two or even a fondue.
The views don’t disappoint as you cycle through the UNESCO World Heritage site of Lavaux before reaching the lovely medieval town of Fribourg. Then wind up this week long tour with expansive views of Lake Thun (Lac de Thoune in French) and the rolling hills of the Bernoise countryside, finishing off with a night in Interlaken, an adventure sports hotspot.
This self-guided tour includes breakfasts, luggage transfers, a briefing, directions, info and assistance if needed once you’re out on the road. Hybrid and full carbon bikes are available to rent.

Travelling by bike, you are no longer an observer — you are an active participant in the local environment and culture.Choosing to travel through the Swiss Alps by bike is one way to keep the natural beauty and fresh mountain air unchanged. The way we arrange luggage transfers is to use as few vehicles as possible to transfer as much luggage as possible, thereby reducing CO2 emissions.
We recommend travel by train, a much more eco-friendly solution — Geneva and Interlaken are very easily accessibly by Swiss Rail. To travel within Europe, we recommend taking trains over renting cars using or air transports. Trains are more energy-efficient and will minimize the CO2 emission per capita.
In cities, we recommend clients to use public transportation, or to walk or bike. City bike rentals are more and more widely available in big and medium-sized cities across Europe they are the best way to get around congested cities.
People
We are based in France. This is where we live and work. Our office is located in the French Alps, just a stone's throw from the Swiss border near Geneva, and we ride the very same roads we recommend to you for your cycling vacations. Like the French, the Swiss take pride in serving locally-produced food, so you can count on local restaurants serving farm-fresh meat and produce. You can even skip supermarkets and head straight to the source of chocolate and cheese in Gruyères. As firm believers of sustainable development, we have established a friendly network of professionals comprised mainly of local tour guides, small operators, and family-run agencies. Most of our people have created their own jobs/enterprises in order to live their passion for the region and cultural heritage. All have extensive travel experience and have lived in various places before falling in love with the area they now call home.
Relying on local guides and family-owned hotels, you will be ensured a warm, personalized welcome. All properties are run by people who have a passion for their region and its cultural, gastronomic, and historical heritage. We use genuine places with local charm, blending harmoniously into the environment. Our hotels offer guests a pleasant, nice-sized environment. Some of them have as few as two rooms, while others are small human-sized hotels.
Travelling with us guarantees that you will be taken care of by caring professionals who chose to build their lives here. Forget the non-descript and indistinguishable big chain hotels — we use genuine places with local charm! All the properties we use are run by people who have a passion for their region and its cultural, gastronomic, and historical heritage.
