1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

We have many wonderful memories of our stay. We particularly appreciated the insights into Senegalese culture provided by our guides Leïty and Oumar.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Make sure you’re happy with the longish drives between some of the destinations (we thought they were worth it but they can seem long and you can’t play on your phone!). Carry notes of different value, ready for tipping. Have a pair of socks ready when visiting mosques.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

We had meals in a number of small, local restaurants, which we hope benefited the locals.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Very good.

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

There is a responsibility on us as a company and on our clients visiting the country to do everything possible to minimize our impact. As we visit several national parks such as the Djoudj National Bird Park (a UNESCO World Heritage site), which is one of the most important bird sanctuaries in the world on this tour, we are conscious that these are fragile environments. We therefore try to minimize our impact by adhering to strict environmental guidelines and educating participants on the ‘do’s and don’ts’ of maintaining the environment such as providing dustbins at vantage places to prevent littering the environment. Some of the waste materials like polythene rubbers are recycled into trashy bags .Clients are advised to bring their own fillable water bottles rather than buying plastic bottled waters.
Additionally, our visits here provides income to local communities, who are thus incentivized to continue preserving these areas and are able to see the value of these natural parks as an environment rather than a resource. The entrance fees paid also help to fund continued conservation efforts.
As a practice of responsible travel, we also encourage our clients to be energy efficient users. All lighting systems in our overnight rooms are put off before departure as a measure of conserving energy. We give clients on this trip the opportunity to suggest innovative ways of conserving energy to our local accommodation providers.

People

The tour includes a visit to the ethnographic museum and a lecture by the curator on the history of the Goree Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit the colorful markets including Tilen Market, famous for a variety of medicinal herbs and traditional healers. Our travelers get to interact with the indigenes and observe their daily lives. We sometimes have clients doing homestay by so doing we enhance local connections with the people by participating in their daily activities. This in turn leave some money in those communities we visit.
We patronize accommodation facilities owned by the indigenes. This not only create jobs for the local people through tourism but we as well encourage them to maintain their culture and customs for generations unborn.

Our travellers are fully aware of local cultures, customs and traditions which help to foster mutual respect. Our experienced tour guides are always with the travellers every step of the way to offer additional guidance, advice and information so that the time spent with the local population are mutually rewarding experiences.
