CARBON REDUCTIONWere committed to minimizing this tours harmful environmental impact by efforts to reduce flying. For those flying into Italy, we encourage considering direct flights to reduce emissions. The parts of Slovenia and Croatia were going to visit on this tour are very well connected, so we encourage using local transport like buses or ride-shares and provide travelers with information to help them book transport ahead of their trip. This journey is mostly a sightseeing tour that avoids fuel-intensive activities. There is plenty of walking and occasional short car or bus rides. We use public transportation when possible, such as the shuttle in Postojna/Predjama to cut down on emissions and minimize impacts to local ecosystems. Weve also planned the itinerary to stay in a relatively small geographic area, which limits fuel required to travel between locations. A big part of this tour is also a gastronomic experience. As we prioritize supporting local family-run businesses, the food is locally-sourced and made by local restaurants. Choosing local products reduces the distance food must travel from field to plate. Additionally, vegetarian and vegan meal options are available daily.
ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE
By visiting protected areas in both Slovenia and Croatia, were paying entry fees and that money is used for maintenance and conservation of those protected landscapes. Our guides are locals and have backgrounds in Journalism, Biology, Medicine and Environmental Sciences so were able to provide expert nature guidance wherever we are. Throughout the trip, we practice the principles of leaving no trace, educating and instructing our customers on reducing their impacts on nature. During the truffle hunting excursion, we work only with licensed truffle hunters who strictly adhere to foraging and harvesting regulations and ensure the forests are not depleted or damaged during truffle hunting. We also only work with truffle hunters who take excellent care of their dogs that assist us in finding the truffles, and we ensure that animal welfare and environmental stewardship are at the forefront of their practices.
People
LOCAL ECONOMYIn both Slovenia and Croatia, were staying at locally owned accommodations in small groups, that way promoting responsible tourism and supporting the local economy rather than sending tourism dollars to large international chains. The meals that are included on this trip come from locally-owned and family-owned restaurants and are made of fresh local ingredients, which helps to support local agriculture. On our gastronomy experiences in Istria, we will support the local farmers, food producers and wine makers by visiting small town markets, Olive Oil Museum and trying our luck in finding world famous Istrian truffles with reputable and licensed locals.
EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY
We believe in equal opportunity employment and reject any form of discrimination based on race, gender, nationality or sexual orientation. All guides on this tour are locals - either from Slovenia or Croatia, which is our way of recognizing and supporting local community values. A standout feature of our team is the significant representation of women, who make up more than three-quarters of our staff. Additionally, our tours are designed to create an inclusive environment for the LGBTQ+ community and welcome travelers from diverse backgrounds. We celebrate diversity and strive to foster spaces where everyone feels respected and valued.
