Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

CARBON REDUCTION

We're committed to minimizing our environmental impact throughout this journey by embracing human-powered activities like hiking, cycling, rafting, and kayaking. Our circular route minimizes unnecessary travel, and we'll spend no more than 11 hours driving over the course of 8 days. For those flying into Slovenia, we encourage considering direct flights to reduce emissions, and we're happy to assist in arranging eco-friendly transportation options like buses, trains, or ride-shares. Packing light is encouraged, and we provide a pre-trip packing list to ensure essentials without excess. Upon arrival, we offer energy conservation tips, such as mindful use of air conditioning and hot water. In terms of accommodations and dining, we prioritize supporting local family-run businesses that emphasize sustainability. Vegetarian and vegan meal options are available daily, showcasing locally sourced ingredients.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE

Slovenia shines as a prime model of sustainability and environmental consciousness within Europe. The lodgings we've chosen prioritize environmental stewardship, and some of them have received the Slovenia Green Accommodation Label, indicating a commitment to sustainability and eco-friendly practices. Throughout the trip, we practice the principles of Leave No Trace and instruct travelers to stay on marked trails, not interfere with wildlife, take all trash with them, etc.

During our journey, we'll explore Gostilna Mili Vrh and Velika Planina, an expansive Alpine pasture home to one of Europe's few remaining high mountain shepherd villages, where traditional Alpine methods still yield milk products.

LOCAL ECONOMY

We support the local economy in several key ways on this trip. By avoiding large chains, we keep more income within the communities we visit. The meals that are included are at locally owned restaurants and feature Slovenian cuisine with fresh, local ingredients. This not only supports the local restaurants, but also supports Slovenian agriculture and reduces the environmental impact of transporting food long distances.

The trip starts and ends in Ljubljana, and we encourage travelers to visit the city’s central open-air market to support local farmers, bakers, and food producers. From purchasing homemade bread and pastries to local fruits, honey and cheeses, this is a great way to taste local products and support the local economy.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY

Ensuring fair compensation for everyone involved in our tours, including both our team members and partners, is paramount to us. We firmly believe in equal opportunity employment and vehemently reject any form of discrimination based on race, gender, nationality, or sexual orientation. A standout feature of our team is the significant representation of women, who make up more than three-quarters of our staff. Additionally, our tours are designed to create an inclusive environment for the LGBTQ+ community and welcome travelers from diverse backgrounds. We celebrate diversity and strive to foster spaces where everyone feels respected and valued.
