South Korea and Japan small group tour
Description of South Korea and Japan small group tour
Are you in a ‘Korean barbecue on the beach’ kind of mood, or are you up for okonomiyaki in Osaka? You don’t have to choose a favourite just yet; this tour of South Korea and Japan goes in-depth through both to get under the skin of the countries. Thanks to the guiding hand of expert tour leaders in each destination, you’ll get well acquainted with Korean and Japanese customs.
A trip length of over three weeks means that you have enough time to really immerse yourself in the destinations. The first 11 days are spent in South Korea, leaving the second half of the trip dedicated to touring Japan. As part of this, you’ll get four days in Seoul and five days in Tokyo, plus plenty of time in Busan, South Korea, and around Kyoto.
In between the big cities, in South Korea, you’ll discover hidden gems. Spend an evening in a traditional Korean bathhouse, a night in a temple near Gyeongju, and have a barbecue on a Jeju Island beach. You’ll even visit the Korea Demilitarized Zone, which is impossible to see outside of a tour.
You’ll go across the Korea Strait to Japan via a short flight. Once you’ve soaked up Tokyo, you’ll be taking in stupendous views of Mount Fuji across Lake Ashi, and falling in love with the traditional culture you’ll find in Kyoto, Arashiyama and Nara. Your trip ends in Osaka, via time in Hiroshima.
What’s particularly great about this tour? It’s the number of hands-on activities. In South Korea you’ll get to try the Korean martial art of Sunmodo, and take classes in both Taekwondo and K-pop in Seoul. You’ll also be able to take part in Buddhist meditation, and go on nature hikes. On to Japan, where the action doesn’t stop. You’ll try batting cages in Tokyo, and a sushi making class, go for sake tasting and watch a Geisha show.
This is a small group tour, and in each destination you’ll have a dedicated bilingual guide to help you understand the culture.

Nature:
We have many hikes included in the tour. We believe this is a wonderful way of seeing the place you are in and reducing carbon footprint and also the viewpoints throughout are definitely worthwhile. We add in a lot of hikes to our tours as we believe this is a great way to get the travellers to connect with nature and therefore hopefully cultivating an appreciation and a long lasting respect for it.
Top Tips:
Tap water is safe to drink in Japan so to all of our travellers we suggest packing a reusable water bottle to ensure you have water on hand at all times and help minimize the trail of plastic left behind. There are lots of refill points and most restaurants will also provide water bottle refills. We also recommend packing as light as possible, to help keep your carbon footprint low.
People
Local tour guides:We use native and bilingual guides. By hiring local tour guides we help support the local people and provide employment opportunities. There are two Adventure Leaders in this tour, one in South Korea and one in Japan.
Local experiences:
Food is one of the most important elements of travelling. In South Korea, you’ll start learning about the local cuisine as soon as you meet the group - starting with Korean barbecue and our Adventure Leader will always be happy to give you recommendations for traditional restaurants. The temple stay and Jjimjilbang experiences are a must have experiences while in South Korea that give you insight into the religion and culture. While in Japan, you’ll learn about the local cuisine with a sushi-making workshop and tantalize your taste buds with an intimate sake-tasting session.
As a sign of respect, we think that it is important for travellers to learn a few key words or phrases in the native language, so we offer classes to learn about the local culture including a calligraphy class in Japan and some basic language classes in South Korea and Japan.
All of our customers’ interactions are with local suppliers, and we promote integration between travellers and local people through our “unmissable” included activities and our optional activities, and opportunities for authentic cultural immersion.
Our Adventure Leaders are trained in ensuring that customers are aware of local customs and traditions, educating them on when it is appropriate to take photos and/or videos.
