CARBON REDUCTIONStaying on a sailboat contributes to carbon reduction in multiple ways. Sailboats rely on wind power, minimizing the use of fossil fuels and reducing carbon emissions associated with transportation. By choosing this eco-friendly accommodation option, you directly reduce your carbon footprint compared to traditional forms of lodging. As with many countries, waste disposal is a problem. Rubbish, particularly plastic rubbish, that does not decompose, is one of the main culprits. All our yachts use a water maker to reduce our use of plastic. Enjoy nature- hike, swim, kayak, surf, skate- all these forms of transportation can let you help keep your carbon footprint to a minimum. Additionally, staying on a sailboat encourages a deeper connection with nature and fosters an appreciation for sustainable practices, promoting a more environmentally conscious mindset among visitors to this region.
All of our yachts offer top-notch menu options. When possible, our food is sourced locally, and we get fresh produce whenever we can. We offer vegetarian, gluten-free, and dairy-free meals which can help reduce your carbon footprint in several ways. By embracing a vegetarian, gluten-free, and dairy-free diet, you can make a positive impact on the environment and contribute to a more sustainable future. Be sure to inform the crew should you have any dietary restrictions so we can accommodate them.
ENVIRONMENT/WILDLIFE
Our yachts always have two instructors on board, providing guidance to a crew with varying levels of experience, from beginners to fully qualified individuals. The crew members can choose the extent of their learning journey, as we teach in practical situations while sailing from one destination to another. Apart from acquiring sailing skills, our crew also gains insights into different cultures and communities. Our fortunate crew gets to explore off-the-beaten-path and visit some of the most remote places in the world.
We ask our clients to follow these tips to reduce their impact on nature:
Stick to marked paths and trails to avoid damaging vegetation and wildlife habitats. Respect wildlife by observing from a safe distance and refraining from feeding or disturbing them. Dispose of waste properly and leave no trace behind, especially in sensitive areas. Conserve water and energy and use eco-friendly products. By adopting these practices, you can help preserve the natural beauty of the Island and contribute to its long-term sustainability.
People
LOCAL ECONOMY/TRAVELING WITH RESPECTBy sailing we can help the local economy. When possible, spending money on provisions, fuel, dining, and other goods and services during your stay, benefits local businesses such as restaurants, markets, and shops. By choosing to sail, you are fostering sustainable tourism development.
In order to offer a more immersive cultural experience, we allocate time to explore the towns and cities on foot. This approach not only minimizes our carbon footprint but also enables us to delve deeper into local communities and engage with the residents. By exploring on foot, we prioritize understanding and respecting the social and cultural aspects of each destination. To ensure this, our instructors provide informative reading materials about regional customs in advance. This allows us to create meaningful and enriching opportunities for our travellers while fostering positive interactions and exchange of ideas with local inhabitants, without inadvertently causing any offense.
We extend a warm invitation to individuals of all age groups to venture beyond their comfort zones within a secure setting. Our professional crew, which includes 2 instructors, provides supervision and guidance. Whenever feasible, we offer the opportunity for visitors to come aboard our ship at each port we visit. We showcase our activities, share insights about valuable skills and their significance, and demonstrate that there exists a form of sea-bound adventure travel that upholds respect for the ocean. It is an experience where one can forge a profound connection with oneself, others, and the natural world.
We support a number of cancer charities, and this particular trip raises funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Most of us will encounter cancer at some time in our lives and Macmillan, as many of us know, are there to help and support both the patient and their family. It is our personal experience of the superb care and support provided by Macmillan that has led us to run this trip. Our yachts will visit many marinas and most, including Royal Quays, Rhu, Bangor, and Whitehills, will donate the mooring fees to Macmillan. There is no pre-requisite to fundraise but if you wish to support our crews on their voyage and help Macmillan Cancer Support continue their vital work with those affected by cancer, then you can follow the link sent when you book that visit our just giving page.
