We really enjoyed it and feel that Carmen from the host company did an excellent job. The info provided was generally very good. Walking route descriptions and maps were excellent. Transfers and ferry trips were all very smooth. All local people we dealt with were very friendly and helpful. Read full review

All of the walks were lovely with interesting sights and sounds. We saw a red squirrel , badger and Orchids in the meadows. I particularly enjoyed the rowing across to an island... Wonderful. Read full review

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

All our trips are about enjoying and experiencing the natural and cultural beauty of the region, in a respectful and considerate way. Our trips are only run with small groups, most often from two people to six people, to ensure that impact on the environment is a minimum at all times, and the most personal and rich experience can be had by all.

Hiking puts little stress on the environment and allows you to appreciate the surroundings in an environmentally friendly way as you follow the established hiking trails across the islands.

We are proud sponsors of Skärgårdsstiftelsen (The Archipelago Foundation) who work to preserve the Stockholm archipelago to ensure future generations also enjoy access to a free and accessible archipelago.

We are also a member of Naturturismföretagen (Swedish Ecotourism Association) which works towards an improved tourism which protects and takes responsibility for our delicate natural and cultural environment. Our company beliefs reflect this vision.

This trip makes use only of the public boat system which is an extension of Stockholm’s bus and underground system. We also where possible choose accommodation close to the boat jetties to minimise the need for additional baggage transfers, and encourage our guests instead to bring luggage that they can transport themselves 200 m.

The Stockholm archipelago is a region reliant on small-scale tourism to help keep small, locally run businesses alive. We ensure that our guests are given information about all local restaurants, cafes, shops etc to help support these local businesses during their trip.

We take responsibility of ensuring that rubbish is handled accordingly, both in the countryside and in the office, with a developed sorting system. Use of paper is spared with all marketing carried out online to avoid the production of own brochures. Travellers are encouraged to recycle as much literature as possible that they are provided with at the start of the trip.

People

We wholeheartedly support the local economy - our guests want to experience the genuine region in which they are travelling, and our aim is to let it be seen and enjoyed.

Guests booking this trip are given information in their tour information about Skärgårdsstiftelsen (The Archipelago Foundation) and their objective of preserving the Stockholm archipelago. We encourage our guests to either become ‘friends’ of the association or make a donation to the foundation.

Our aim is always to promote and support the local community. Encounters with the locals is a fundamental aspect of our trips, and we therefore make all efforts to use suppliers from the area where possible. With this in mind we prefer to use accommodation that is more personal and traditional which allows an insight into the local community, for example, Svartsö Skärgårdshotell is owned by 4 families from Svartsö who have devoted time, energy and money into Svartsö’s future. Our aim is to support these local ventures to the full.

We also aim for included meals to be provided by local suppliers, and therefore provide information on all local restaurants and cafes, for example, Gällnö cafe and country shop, Svartsö Krog & Bistro Sågen, not to mention the local bakeries and cafes along the hikes.

Our trips are designed so that travellers pass by natural as well as cultural sites en route, including local folklore museums such as Svartsö Hembygdsmuseum, and information is provided about these sites. Travellers are encouraged to visit or take guided tours, and all opening times of sites, shops, facilities are indicated to allow the traveller the opportunity to maximise their visit.

Our trips would quite simply not be the same without the support of the local community.
