Description of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan small group holiday
Explore two of Central Asia’s ‘stans, on this 16 day Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan small group holiday, following the legendary Pamir Highway. This high-altitude road is amongst the world’s most dramatic routes, but its location in a remote, mountainous region of Central Asia means few Western travellers have journeyed along it.
This holiday starts in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, and then travels south to Khorog along the Wakhan corridor which follows the Afghan border. Next, travel to Murgab and then north towards the High Pamir mountain range which rises along the border between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. Now we will be travelling below the huge Lenin Peak (7,134m) before threading through the lush Fergana valley, and ending up in the Silk Road city of Osh.
During this exciting journey, there is lots of time to leave the vehicles and explore on foot, hiking to admire vast vistas and meeting nomads who carve out a life in this remote, harsh environment. Enjoy a night in a homestay with welcoming local people and learn about the culture of this region, see ancient petroglyphs, discover Silk Road caravanserai and admire the dramatic mountain landscapes – the perfect trip for adventurous travellers.

We understand this is not always possible in countries where tap water is not safe to drink. Our partnership with Water-To-Go provides a discount on filtered water bottles to our clients. We do not provide water from plastic bottles to our clients in country but always ensure there is regular access to drinking water on our tours.
By keeping the group size to a maximum of 12, we can also minimise the human impact on the fragile sites and ecosystems we visit.
People
On this tour we will be given the opportunity to stay in the homes of hospitable locals. This is a great way to meet and interact with the local people, understand their limited infrastructure, and be introduced to their culture and way of life. With the homestays we use the money goes straight into these remote communities, so benefiting the people directly.In Central Asia we have developed unique relationships with many people of the region and through our form of interactive, socially conscience tourism have helped them adapt to the modern, changing world by providing important income opportunities. On this tour we will be staying in a homestays for a unique glimpse into the traditions and customs of local life. The homestay market, helps them to provide good, clean and interesting accommodation which in term allows them to educate their children, improve their standard of living and look after their ill. The wonderful thing about this kind of interactive tourism is that everyone gains – the families financially and us with the wonderful welcome and experience they give us. Wherever possible we stay in locally owned accommodation, eat in locally owned establishments and purchase supplies from the local nomads.
