Description of Thailand family holidays

This fantastic Thailand family holiday lets you experience the country on a local level with a combination of cultural excursions, exciting activities and excellent accommodation adding to plenty of lazy days spent by the beach - all in two weeks. Starting your trip in Bangkok really chucks your family in to the centre of the action; however, you’re bound to come up swimming within a city that never sleeps and never fails to excite and enthral in equal measures. From tuk tuks to long tail boats, there's certainly more than one way to travel around the capital, with sightseeing tours featuring the Grand Palace, Wat Pho and the banks of the Chao Phraya River all adding to an array of fascinating sights and sounds to expand the mind, body and soul.

After making the most of your time in the capital you'll head to Kanchanaburi, where jungle rafting, luxury safari camping and the famous setting for the Bridge over the River Kwai are an excellent introduction to life in the jungle. You'll then be whisked north to Chiang Mai, a beautiful walled city surrounded by mountains and forests. This is an excellent base from where to explore Thailand's second city with night markets, cooking courses and spa massages promising something for every member of your tribe. Just outside of Chiang Mai you'll be led on an exotic outdoor adventure with bamboo rafting expeditions, overnight stays with hill tribes and zip wires through the jungle canopy. From Chiang Mai it’s also possible to fly south to Koh Samui Island or Khao Sok National Park where you can choose your own adventure with kayaking, hiking and nights in the jungle along side soft white sand and seafood.

Accessibility

Overview:
We believe that travel is for everyone. This is a really core principle for us and we passionately believe that where there’s a will there’s a way. We take all ages and all levels of fitness and we do everything possible to ensure that our tours are accessible for everyone, irrespective of physical ability or cognitive conditions. In our experience, there is almost always a way of making a tour suitable for everyone. It’s conceivable that there may be some situations that we can’t accommodate but we haven’t come across them yet!
Limited mobility:
Everything that we do is tailor made so if we have guests with limited mobility, for example, we will tailor the programme to take this into account, and will suggest hotels which will suit. Just let us know what your requirements are and we can talk you through the options
Wheelchair:
In most of our destinations, it is not possible to arrange a special vehicle adapted for wheelchairs, but we are able to arrange a large vehicle which will have ample storage for a wheelchair. Some hotels have wheelchair access; these may be few and far between but we can suggest where these might be possible. Where there is no wheel chair access, but not too many steps, hotel staff are always happy to help with lifting the wheel chair.
Blind/ limited vision:
All of our customers will be travelling as part of a family group therefore we would expect that one of the family would be able to provide necessary assistance to a traveller with limited vision. Information in braille is almost never available but local support can be provided, for example ensuring that porters are available to carry luggage in airports / train stations / hotels so that the travel partner is free to assist the person with limited vision.
Deaf/limited hearing:
As stated above, all of our customers will be travelling as part of a family group therefore we would expect that one of the family would be able to provide necessary assistance to a traveller with limited hearing.
Cognitive conditions:
We have experience in providing appropriate spaces for all travellers, whether this means hotels with access to outdoor space, ground floor rooms, quiet rooms and so on. As all of our customers will be travelling as part of a family group therefore we would expect that one of the family would be also be on hand to provide necessary one on one assistance to a traveller with cognitive conditions as required.
About this Free from food:
If guests have serious dietary issues (or allergies) we will arrange translations into the relevant local language(s) to explain these, and will brief guides to ensure that appropriate food is served.

Thailand is such a big country and we feel that this holiday allowed us to experience quite a lot of it. We travelled with our two children (11,14) who absolutely loved the holiday and were so well looked by the Thai people. Read full review

We had the most amazing holiday and all of us thoroughly enjoyed the "local" experiences we had, from giving alms to the monks to riding through rice fields on bikes. We really enjoyed meeting real Thai people and seeing different sides to Thailand. Read full review

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

Where possible we use small locally owned hotels that have been built and furnished using locally sourced materials.
We encourage the use of local transport (where appropriate) and in particular, many of our visitors will use the long distance train as their primary mode of transport whilst in Thailand.
Our UK office is run as environmentally as possible. The majority of our staff either walk or cycle to work and we operate a primarily paper free environment. We do not produce brochures (which often leads to a lot of waste) but market our tours exclusively on the internet.

People

Thailand is a country where there has been quite a lot of negative cultural tourism that has become quite exploitative, particularly in some of the hill tribe villages in the north. We have worked closely with our local partners to ensure that all of the village visits that we arrange are conducted in a responsible fashion. In particular we ensure that the money earned by the village is distributed equitably.
Families are accompanied by a local guide in most parts of Thailand (the exception is usually a beach stay) and the guides are expected to provide guests with a detailed understanding of the way of life in Thailand. Many families are also interested in giving their children an understanding of what it is like to grow up in Thailand so, where applicable, we can also arrange a visit to a local school.
Our tours in Thailand are run in conjunction with a local partner which, whilst employing a small number of foreigners, is overwhelmingly staffed by Thai nationals.
