1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
Everything. Excellent guide, good itinerary and great people and scenery
2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
Lots of travelling overland, but can see much more than just flying over the country
3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Yes very much so. Any bottles used given to the local tribes and gifts for the tribes included soap amongst other things.
4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
Fabulous
Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.
Planet
On this trip we visit very rural areas and less-visited tribes throughout the Ivory Coast. We will also spend time exploring forests, rolling fertile plains and by the coast, untouched by tourists. As the country is still in it's infancy of tourism, many areas lack basic infrastructure such as visitor centres, waste disposal, signage and so it's vital to maintain the natural beauty. We will always clean up after ourselves, never leaving a trace, including any waste from picnic lunches and snacks along the way.Throughout the country, we use a private bus for our group because the public transport infrastructure cannot support our itinerary. However, the itinerary also takes us exploring on foot, where we will seek out the hidden treasures of the Ivory Coast.
Everyone involved in putting this trip together understands the importance of protecting and not overwhelming a very young tourism infrastructure. Your leader will offer advice throughout the trip on what to expect, how to dispose of waste in the best way, plus tips on how to reduce our impact on water and energy.
As a travel company we are continually looking for ways to improve and are proud to be ‘Responsible in everything we do’. Education is key, and so all staff, Tour Leaders and partnering suppliers are trained in responsible and sustainable tourism. At our Head Office, we continually strive towards a sustainable and planet-friendly working environment, including having solar panels installed and a company commitment to reducing our plastic usage.
People
As it's important for us to support the local economy and ensure our trips benefit the welcoming people of the Ivory Coast, we work with local staff. Your leader has been trained by a member of our team to offer our consistent, high standards during this West African experience, while offering you local insight and being able to show you places only the locals know about!Throughout the Ivory Coast, many properties are simple and differ from European standards. Outside of the cities, there is little choice when it comes to accommodation but we endeavour to use locally run properties that have great positive impact on the local community and offer a real African experience. Food options can be limited depending on what is in season, as many ingredients will be locally sourced.
As a company we have valuable and longstanding partnerships with UK charities Toilet Twinning and Send a Cow, plus many smaller initiatives and projects around the world. We’re members of the UK travel industry body AITO because we believe it’s important to share our knowledge and experience, as well as learn from other operators.
