Description of Vietnam and Cambodia 15 day tour, tailor made

This Vietnam and Cambodia tour is a tailor made holiday that takes in both of these extraordinary countries, with eight days in the former and the rest in Cambodia. Working from north to south, your adventure starts in Hanoi, Vietnam’ s ancient capital where you have a couple of days to acclimatise and take in the sights and sounds of this incredible city. Then off to the coast to enjoy some time on traditional junk boat in Bai Tu Long Bay sailing through beautiful rocky, karst limestone waterscapes.

Your first internal flight is down to Danang, which connects you with Hoi An where the famous lantern filled streets and colonial architecture make this a wonderfully atmospheric place to spend a couple of days. Your next internal flight is to Hoi Chi Minh City, formerly known as Saigon, and which lives up to all expectations in terms of its lively, nonstop cosmopolitan scene. Best way to see it is on the back of a Vespa scooter, doing a food tour of the city at night.

In contrast, your next couple of days are all about rural Vietnam, exploring the floating markets and villages of the Mekong Delta, before crossing the border into Cambodia travelling by speedboat no less. Your first stop is Phnom Penh, the capital city, where we recommend a couple of days to take in everything on its doorstep. This is a time of mixed emotions, with visits to tragic sites such as the Killing Fields and Tuol Sleng, both scenes of utter atrocities. Phnom Penh itself brings you back to a thankfully peaceful present, however, with its hectic markets, tuk tuks, superb architecture and culture.

Last but not least, your tour ends with the glorious temples of Angkor Wat, after taking a six hour bus journey to Siem Riep, to see this vast jungle clad empire in all its glory. Not only worth the journey through Cambodia, but worth the journey to South East Asia.

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

Throughout Vietnam and Cambodia we prioritise in booking small scale accommodation that is locally run and employ local people.

Our local partners in Vietnam and Cambodia are conscious about helping you to reduce your carbon footprint, which is another reason why we book small scale accommodations. They constantly encourage their staff to recycle all waste and be mindful of their electricity and water consumption. They record their recycling waste each month and are constantly looking at ways to make their offices greener.

We advise all customers travelling to Vietnam and Cambodia what they can do before and during they travel on how they can be responsible travellers. Including tips on how to be considerate of their water and electricity consumption in hotels and to inform them of any animal exploitation in the places they will travel to.

Here in our UK office we put a great emphasis on food waste and encourage staff to take food home with them so it is not thrown away at the end of the day.

People

We believe in putting people first and part of this is to bring you closer to the real Vietnam by offering interaction with the local people. As you travel along the Mekong into Cambodia you’ll spend the night with a local family where you will be encouraged to help prepare dinner and then eat with the family. As you carry on up the river you will stop by some of the cottage industries that have been set up along the banks of the river and discover the delta way of life.

When you arrive into Cambodia you will be met by a local guide who is is paid fair wages, as our local partners insist upon equality for all of their employees. Throughout this entire itinerary we use local Vietnamese and Cambodian guides, helping to put money directly into the pockets of the local people.

In each destination we support a local project by giving you the option to donate a small amount when you book with us. In Cambodia, we work with the Cambodia-Dutch Foundation, which is dedicated to improving the well being of the Cambodian people through various aid projects. They also raise funds and collect much needed goods such as clothing, tools and toys for those in need of support.
