Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

CARBON REDUCTION
This 44 day tour travels through Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore meaning travellers can take one long trip to six countries, making the most of their international flight to and from the tour. We travel by land for the majority of this trip using shared local transport on buses, minibuses and trains.

All our travellers receive a pre-departure information pack which includes guidance on how to travel responsibly. Information is given on how to reduce the carbon impact of your international flight such as travelling economy class, not taking too much luggage and looking into the levels of carbon emissions of different flights before booking.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE
During our time in Bukit Lawang, our accommodation is at Ecolodge who are working to reduce their environmental impact. Their new restaurant is constructed using bamboo and native plants have been planted in the lodge’s garden. They have also installed a bio-filtration system whereby nitrates and phosphates from showers and laundry waste water is absorbed by plant species that specifically require a high level or nutrients and water. As much waste is recycled as possible, for instance glass, PET and other plastics, with additional materials repurposed into souvenirs by local people.

We recognize the need to reduce our plastic consumption and provide sustainable alternatives to our customers. That's why we've partnered with Water to Go to offer a fantastic solution.

Water to Go is a company on a mission to tackle the issue of plastic pollution by providing travelers with reusable filter bottles. These bottles are not your average water containers. They are designed with advanced filtration technology that allows you to safely refill your bottle from natural water sources, taps, and even in places where tap water is not typically considered safe to drink.

LOCAL ECONOMY
Night markets are everywhere in South East Asia from Ho Chi Minh City to Koh Samui to Medan and they have fantastic, authentic food to try. Other markets that support local producers, craftsmen and women are plentiful and those we visit include the Central Market in Kuala Lumpur for souvenirs, the well-known floating markets on the Mekong River and the lesser known little pop up market at the bus station in Georgetown. We encourage our travellers to pay a fair price for products and to bargain in a good humoured way rather than wearing sellers down to the cheapest price.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY
At sites of interest, we use local guides from the community to impart their expert knowledge, such as Auwie on Perhentian Besar, one of Malaysia’s Perhentian Islands. Auwie takes our travellers snorkelling to see the wonderful sea life around the island.

Our company Equality, Diversity and Inclusion policy applies to all who work for us whether they be in the UK or overseas and on whatever basis they are working. We are proud that our workforce includes a huge range of people and cultures from all backgrounds and from around the world and we are committed to providing equality, fairness and respect to them all.
